My favorite R&B songs in a while and they sound kind of similar, too. Which one do you like more?

best dirty money joint > not the best dream joint

Best Dream joint on that album though.

Hey Look More Than Five Years Has Passed And You Have A C (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:43 (fourteen years ago)

by far best song on a Dream album i'm kind of indifferent to > good but maybe kinda underrated song off an album i love lots of other songs on more

absolutely steen hooses (some dude), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:46 (fourteen years ago)

is "ass on the floor" underrated? iirc it won the poll here, seems to be the consensus crit pick (as opposed to "coming home" which is the commercial success)

lex pretend, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

i'm going with "yamaha" b/c it might be derivative and all that but so few other songs, like, ever make me feel like they're squeezing me that tight

lex pretend, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

I also voted for "Yamaha," for similar reasons, and for this one: whenever I've played it people have said, "Cool, what IS this?" while the Diddy number has gone down like an above average club thumper.

Hey Look More Than Five Years Has Passed And You Have A C (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

and i guess the "b-b-but this is just little red corvette" sceptic-response to "yamaha" could also apply (and has been applied) to "ass on the floor ("b-b-but this is just pon de floor")

lex pretend, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:56 (fourteen years ago)

best dirty money joint > not the best dream joint

this. I prefer "fast car".

was gonna poll "ass on the floor" against beyoncé's new single "girl" in a few weeks when its released for best use of "pon de floor" sample.

PΓ☼LΞG☼ (prolego), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

"Yamaha" is closer to Ready For The World than Prince imo.

Hey Look More Than Five Years Has Passed And You Have A C (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:58 (fourteen years ago)

I prefer "fast car".

ditto

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:59 (fourteen years ago)

i don't really get the "yamaha" consensus tbh

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

like..it wouldn't make my terius top 20

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

beyoncé's new single has emerged?!

lex pretend, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

my "yamaha" love is much more to do w/how i can't help reacting to it than rationally defensible

lex pretend, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

i wish i had some kind of inarguable reaction to it, but i don't

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

xxp it's not emerged yet but it's due out in the next couple of weeks. she's filming the video today!

PΓ☼LΞG☼ (prolego), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

i think the best i can justify it is that the production is so absolutely huge - even more so than terius' previous ~epics~ like "fast car" and the LvM suite - it's not as good a song but it's more of a pure rush

lex pretend, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

Currently I'd go with

Nikki pt2 + Abyss > Yeah Yeah You Would > Love King > Yamaha > Ass On The Floor > Make Up Bag

Although at the moment I'd take Ciara 'Heavy Rotation' over all of those (off topic).

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:06 (fourteen years ago)

each is only maybe my 5th fav song on each album, voted yamaha

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

the way the-dream uses those claps and toms are very similar to the way prince used them, I mean, it's really hard for me not to think immediately of prince when that song begins, and then you have the rest come in - the synths etc...

sorry i meant "overrated" -- i mean how many other songs got an 8 on Singles Jukebox?

absolutely steen hooses (some dude), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

goddamn i have fallen so behind on the jukebox, didn't even realise it was on the sched :/

lex pretend, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:30 (fourteen years ago)

i would say it's not so much overrated - i'd have given it 9 or 10 for sure - as overly singled out - it's not the obvious standout from LTTP by any means

lex pretend, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:32 (fourteen years ago)

i don't really see the appeal of "ass on the floor." sure, unlike "yamaha" i haven't heard it in the context of the album, but most of the other songs i've heard off lttp have been somewhat better. "loving you no more" is a decent slow jam, and "your love" makes it redundant by being a better club banger type song on the same album

flow (chilli), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 00:23 (fourteen years ago)

Yamaha because Dream just tries so hard to sound 80s.

'yamaha' has a euphoric opening but I don't think it sustains itself for the entire 5 minutes

like it's airy, and that's one of it's high points! but it feels stretched out by the time you get to the end.

i think drake distracts (dayo), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 01:11 (fourteen years ago)

"Ass On The Floor" but it's a pretty near thing. Both were top ten of 2010 for me.

Tim F, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 01:54 (fourteen years ago)

but it feels stretched out by the time you get to the end.

but the end is the absolute peak! "clutch, brake, get this muthafucka runnin"! i always want the last minute of "yamaha" to go on 10 times as long as it does

lex pretend, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 08:20 (fourteen years ago)

best dirty money joint > not the best dream joint

Fair enough but Dream >>>>>> Dirty Money

Disagree with this, the "Clutch! Break!" outro is the most euphoric bit of the song.

Voting Yamaha - I like Ass On The Floor but Yamaha has all the euphoria of a great house track while remaining and R&B song, whereas Ass On The Floor feels like a watered-down dance track. Yamaha's a better song as well.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 08:50 (fourteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 16 April 2011 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

To me, "Ass On The Floor" far more resembles J-Lo/Pitbull's "On The Floor" than it does "Yamaha." And I may be guilty of either overrating one of the current "...On the Floor" songs or underrating the other, but they're about equal to my ears.

"Yamaha" is, easily, a better song than both.

how did i miss this!!

not last year homie

k3vin k., Saturday, 16 April 2011 23:40 (fourteen years ago)

"ass on the floor" was my favorite song from my favorite album last year, and the "you know just what to do" pre-chorus was probably my favorite piece of music in a long time. "yamaha" is probably top 10 solo terius but doesn't stack up

haha these results making me get all alex in baltimore up in here

if anything i'm proud in a way that somehow a dream-realted thread didn't make it to 100 posts pre-results

glad we cleared this up
