Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

gonna have to vote S:O. though i enjoy the neil young bent of Magnolia, i find the earlier stuff more consistently interesting and varied. that said, the full band rips live.

dronestreet, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

the live recordings are great, sadly not seen them live.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

and anyone know what is keeping Jason Molina out of action - he's not been seen for over a year now...

Night Nurse with Wound (Jack Battery-Pack), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

dunno. one tour he was supposed to do a year-plus ago was cancelled due to health issues. haven't seen/heard anything since then.

dronestreet, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

what was the health issues?

Songs Ohia is great, haven't really heard too much Magnolia Electric Co.. i know Didn't It Rain is suppose to be the standard and is great. my personal favorite Songs Ohia's album is his last 2003's Magnolia Electric Co.

Bee OK, Saturday, 16 April 2011 01:14 (fourteen years ago)

yeah mine too

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 18 April 2011 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

So a song from the Songs: Ohia album Magnolia Electric Co. counts as a Songs: Ohia vote?

haven't listened to any of this stuff in so long. i'll vote for Songs:Ohia since I have heard more of that than the latter.

akm, Monday, 18 April 2011 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

"Incantation" off of Ghost Tropic absolutely rips! Slowly, slowly descending into the dark.. That whole record is amazing. Magnolia's pretty great too, but I love that post-blues feel of SO.

Mule, Monday, 18 April 2011 20:24 (fourteen years ago)

Ghost Tropic might be my favourite Molina thing. Followed by Magnolia Electric Co (the album) and Didn't It Rain. I never cared for Magnolia the band, but maybe I got off to a bad start with them (a turgid live album). Maybe I should give them another go.

Duke, Monday, 18 April 2011 21:18 (fourteen years ago)

i really like the early magnolia electric co albums. Lioness is a great SO album btw, was my introduction to them, still love it.

epistantophus, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

this is not tough at all because magnolia is wack compared to songs ohia. too, big band. or big. and bandish. i don't know song ohia #1

fauxmarc, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 19:03 (fourteen years ago)

wow. thanks for posting.

dronestreet, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 19:38 (fourteen years ago)

wow that's sad.

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 20:23 (fourteen years ago)

God damn, that is rough to hear. I was just wondering this weekend when we'd hear more from him. I really hope he gets himself back in a good place again, even if it means he doesn't make any more music. He was insanely nice when I talked to him really briefly at the first Intonation Festival.

I was asked to point people to this streaming video if they'd like to watch a live Magnolia Electric Co. show from 2007 before, after, or while donating. Enjoy!

epistantophus, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 22:16 (fourteen years ago)

Um, or maybe it's streaming audio. I didn't click it yet.

epistantophus, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 22:17 (fourteen years ago)

wow, i just click on that web site. get well Jason!

Bee OK, Thursday, 22 September 2011 03:16 (fourteen years ago)

eleven months pass...

He's back!

cwkiii, Thursday, 13 September 2012 04:32 (thirteen years ago)

I guess these recordings are actually a few years old, but it's a step in the right direction...

cwkiii, Thursday, 13 September 2012 04:36 (thirteen years ago)

six months pass...

Anyone know what this means? Because, given his recent history, I suspect it means something bad.
