When music syncs up with real life....

Prompted by incident this Saturday afternoon - a lovely sunny day in which a bunch of us decided to go for a picnic with a small stereo. We were sitting listening to this:

when a woman in a tracksuit suit came by, jogging ridiculously slowly. So slowly in fact, we had to bite our tongues for a full two minutes to stop ourselves giggling at her.

It happened a while back, I was in the subway terminal waiting for the bus listening to Tessio and this lady just randomly spoke aloud (I guess to her husband) a couple lines of Tessio and synched perfectly to the song. "Baby, it's okay. We'll make it better." and some others I can't remember now.

It was a very surreal moment and I half-expected someone to burst out with a boombox playing Luomo and everyone start singing and dancing...
But sadly my life isn't a Bollywood film or musical :'(

Listening to my ipod and playing Solitaire today. The one card I needed was the Ace of Spades. And then guess what song came on!
Waiting to cross the road, hearing the lyrics "don't cross the road..."

What strange congruity. I was also listening to La Femme Chinoise today while making deliveries, and while I sat at a crosswalk at the university, a small group of asian girls walked by. I almost yelled at them because I was so excited about the song. Killer bassline that one.

Some time in 2003 - Listening to the new Radiohead album and the opening lines of 'We Suck Young Blood' come on only a moment after my Dad shouts up to me from downstairs: "Are you hungry?"

It was like Thom Yorke was mimicking him or something.

waiting at traffic lights while the grand prix theme from Fleetwood Mac's The Chain started up. the lights even changed at the right point.

It was late at night between Xmas and New Years 1994-5, I was rambling on to my uninterested cousin & sister & her boyfriend about seeing Pharoah Sanders during a jazzfest the previous summer...when all of a sudden, through the hash smoke, Pharoah himself appears on the TV (PBS) blowing his lungs out! I was like HOLY SHIT, trying to verbalize my amazement at the miracle and disbelief that it wasn't some stoned hallucination. Pretty sure it wasn't an advert for some upcoming televised event, but rather a PSA for something-or-other, no idea what for.

^^^ Similar sitch while watching Cartoon Network with the sound down and music on (yes, I was at LOLuni). We're listening to DJ Shadow's Private Press and watching a cartoon set in Arthurian England. Just as the sample from 'Blood On The Motorway' comes on: "Breathe deeply, Breathe in the healing love of the universe, And breathe out the sickness which has taken you", a cartoon dragon draws a deep breath and spits fire all over the other characters.

four years pass...

Driving one evening to Norfolk with friends a couple of years ago when Bish Bosch had just come out. 'Epizootics' came on just as we came off the motorway and headed through the dark country lanes.
Then a large van carrying bales of something or other overtook us and one of these bales must have burst suddenly sending a dusty mist all over the road in front of us and for a few minutes we were proper freaked out as we drove through this ghostly cloud in the middle of nowhere.

Crossed 103rd and Broadway while listening to the stupid spoken word section in Vampire Weekend's "Finger Back" that mentions that exact location
