Why is there no new "youth tribe" in 2011?

Is this a good thing (for teens, for music)?

Starting maybe with Bobbysocks, there's always been some music-oriented identity group for teenagers to throw in with; ....mods, hippies, punks, goths, headbangers, b-boys, ravers.....

...then for a while now, nada. Juggalos? Hipsters? I guess junglists come close, but that's a while back and somehow not the same.

I'm talking about a well defined "tribe" with their own name, uniform and musical canon. I know there are lots of new bands and even scenes around now. Is it just that they're not as formal about it?

Will there ever be a new one? What was the most recent one?

i knew there was probably something obvious i was forgetting.
i never ever see any emos around though, is that still a thing?

For awhile it seemed there were a lot of indie hip hop teens around here.

I think "underground hip hop" is the answer here.

and emo/screamo/metalcore is definitely still a thing.

crusty in 2011?
are there new bands?

m0stlyClean, Friday, 15 April 2011 01:38 (fourteen years ago)

war crust! i was excited about the developments on that front. as far as sub-sub-genres go.

I have no idea, from my knowledge it's all scenesters with the giant bangs and layers of multicolored hair (usually blonde and black) and the hipsters with their plastic frames and romance with flannel. Although my knowledge could be a few years out of date, there's an obvious scene girl who is a fan of obvious bubblegummy dance pop in my drawing class.

Yeah, hipsters are the subculture. Used to be peopel in electro-specs, Hoxton fins, flourescent t-shirts. Now it's more of a kind of Teddy-Boy look with a raised-step haircut, high-top trainers, baseball jackets etc..

Anticipating a big goth/hippie revival soon though.

hasn't that already happened?

Goppie.

I dunno. I can't shake the feeling that there's gonna be a socal funk-metal revolution just over the horizon.

Lechera - it never went away where i come from.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't hipsters more of post-highschool/twenty-some type of thing or has come to encompass teenagers as well?
