I just listened to this this morning... Want to listen again before voting. Leaning toward "No More Workhorse Blues" or "Pushkin" or "Thou Without Partner".

Workhorse Blues, Cinematographer, You Will Miss Me for me. This was a bit of a disappointment after the first album. It seems odd to t

fuck you phone.

it seems odd to talk about richness of sound on the first one but I think that's what I principally missed. the album grew on me considerably but it's still probably my least favourite Palace Brothers album.

I once had a very long chat with a friend in a pub about why we both felt post Ease Down the Road Will Oldham stuff was less appealing to us. god alone knows why we were talking about this but we felt we'd nailedit tho I can't now remember any of our conclusions.

Anyway listening to these early albums again reminds me that one of the things I loved was his discursive conversational lyrics, touches of narrative and an way with a catchphrase that reminds me of Mark E Smith.

Seemed to get less of that in later material, although I've missed a number of the later WO albums.

I used to love this album. The sparse loner vibe really appealed to me. When I got around to hearing Jandek, this seemed like Willy's tribute (right down to the cover art). I honestly haven't listened to this in like 10 years, though. I should rectify that.

Skipping over the Hope EP? I'd argue that's the best thing he did under the Palace moniker.

"No More Workhorse Blues"

I remember thinking in 1994 that Cat Power and Palace had their own spooky kind of blues thing happening.

It came down to No More Workhorse Blues and Thou Without Partner. Both classic but I went for the latter.
