Love Heroes but the trick sounded fresher on Low.

Art Decade

Art Decade for me as well. Low is better on both sides.

"Weeping Wall" cos I'm a sucker for the Reich made pop but I'm guessing "Warszawa" will walk this.

Between 'Subterraneans' and 'The Secret Life Of Arabia' for me...went for 'Arabia' in the end...love the outro...

yah "Secret Life" but imo both sides are slightly shit Ambient

"Warszawa" v. "Secret Life"

Low is overrated IMO. I like "A New Career In A New Town" for all it's proto-Daft Punk silliness and "Sound & Vision" is a great single, but apart from that, it's really lopsided and sounds more like an Eno album with guest appearances from Bowie.

have never really liked "Heroes", but side 1 of Low is so excellent that I've always been peeved he chose to give up the second side to Eno stealing off Cluster.

'V-2 Schneider', but 'TSLoA' comes second, especially for the line "You must see the movie, the sand in my eyes. I walk through a desert song when the heroin(e?) dies."

Ha. He stole off Cluster on other albums but not on this one. Second side is mostly Bowie anyway isn't it? Apart for "Warszawa"... and that doesn't sound like anything I can think of (including Eno) (xp)

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 11:36 (fourteen years ago)

it's probably Bowie egged on by Eno? i think of those tracks' narrative not properly ambient structure as being Cluster-esque but yr probly right, they weren't his most blatant thefts

A Zed and Two Nults (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

it's probably Bowie egged on by Eno?

Go on, my son! Just checked, Eno isn't on "Weeping Wall" or "Subterraneans".

Tom D (Tom D.), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 11:41 (fourteen years ago)

anyway, "Always Crashing" is amazing, write some more songs you lazy fucker

I don't think the Low and Heroes instrumentals sound a thing like Eno: they're more abrasive, insistent, and obnoxious, all of which are compliments.

Difficult one, if limited to the actual album tracks. Otherwise I'd easily say 'Some Are' by a mile.

Despite my admiration for the effortless manner in which 'Sense Of Doubt' can instantly create a layer of depressive gloom around you even in the sunniest of days, ultimately my vote goes to 'Warszawa'. You can actually smell the icy socialist concrete there.

On defining the Eno/Bowie-share of each song, among others the excellent http://bowiesongs.wordpress.com/ may give further insight.

^^ lmao @ your display name. Also, co-sign on Pushing ahead of the dame blog. Entries on the Berlin stuff has been fantastic. Visconti's son apparently came up with the original descending "melody" notes of Warzsawa.

"Art Decade". Also love "A New Career In a New Town", which feels like the beginning of side 2 rather than the end of side 1.

The instrumentals are the reason why I like "Low" better than "Heroes". The vocal tracs are great on both, but "Low" has by far the best instrumentals.
