eminem didn't like the insult dog. and he said, 'keep booing you little girl. i'm not afraid to hit a guy with glasses.' and he meant moby! then everyone started booing. but some people were standing up and clapping. because they don't like moby, i guess. or something. i have no idea.

fat joe ate one of the olsen twins. that's one of the jokes the guy made. that's a pretty funny joke.

ja rule, ashanti, nas were pretty cool. the stage set-up was high-school play-ish, kind of. ja rule looked funny in a suit. but still dashing.

eminem seems troubled

it would have been cool if bounty killer was there with no doubt. because he's kind of a neat guy.

avril lavigne is stupid.

and there's something about shakira i can't stand. her dance is retarded and her face is puffy and that wherever, whenever song or whatever it's called sucks.

the hives had a smaller stage than the vines

justin = the black michael jackson

justin's a hecka good dancer too. for real.

hottest current boyband member, also. fo sho. i would bring him to orgasm with my mouth.

brandy's breasts and christina aguilera's breasts

guns n roses = gay

those tlc people were really sad because their friend had died. that's bad.

nelly and that girl were neat.

i hope i was first.

dk, Friday, 30 August 2002 02:32 (twenty-three years ago)

dk....you're an idiot.

Motel Hell, Friday, 30 August 2002 03:18 (twenty-three years ago)

no way.

dk, Friday, 30 August 2002 03:35 (twenty-three years ago)

and, please respond. i want to get a thing going. i'm not sure how to start. but it will be good once we get it going.

dk, Friday, 30 August 2002 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

i had more stuff, too:

pink rode a black man. and her pants were all low. like, you could see the start of the pubic area. pretty cool. she rode a black man, too. and she said she was drunk!

those things in the part with busta rhymes and p. diddy. those jumping things. wow! those are so cool. did you see those? wowowow. neat.

jimmy fallon is okay.

busta rhymes doesn't look as cool when he's not wearing colourful stuff. shiny colourful. he looks unspectacular in black.

oh yeah. the thing. the acknowledgement of the planes crashing into buildings. rudolph giuliani is fucking gay and i don't give a fuck about his stupid city anymore. yeah, new york is good. so what? fuck off. you too, sheryl crow. quit trying to be all shemo. leave that to michelle branch or whoever.

speaking of that, dashboard confessional. that guy is really short. i think. i forget. i think i might have thought he was short but looked again and seen that he wasn't so short.

and sammy hagar and that other guy. for some reason i can't remember his name. but he had long white hair. like a wizard. and sammy hagar looked like some diving instructor or something. and he dissed the wizard! did you see that? he said something about how he didn't need the money yet. about something the wizard said. diss.

jennifer lopez had great shoes. and a great dress.

i just heard bruce springsteen performed. but i didn't see it. i didn't see michael jackson win the thing either.

anthony kiedis was stupid.

i don't get mtv. so, i've never seen trl. but carson daly is really stupid, i bet.

i was watching it on muchmusic.

the white stripes, too. did you see the white stripes? white bowler. i bet they had fun.

dk, Friday, 30 August 2002 03:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Go die.

Motel Hell, Friday, 30 August 2002 03:56 (twenty-three years ago)

this isn't enough to get started. i guess neither of us know how to get it started. so, i don't know what to do now.

dk, Friday, 30 August 2002 04:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I felt a generous spirit in this VMA that didn't know where to reach exactly - The Hives vs The Vines? Neither were very good - playing indistinguishable chords to barely memorable songs - tho yeah, if I were the Hives I would have been ticked off that my "club set" was immediately rocked off the surface of Radio City Music Hall by dry-ice main-stage VineZ0r-rock. Which was blustery but what the hell were they singing about? Who cares - there were other things to think about. Brandy's tits were pi exactly, I think. WHAT ABOUT PINK???? "I'm too drunk for this" - brief shout-out to Dre, almost like she had to get it out of the way - and I liked how she thanked her fans. You could tell she meant it. I was very surprised about Buckethead with Guns n Roses but this is the last thing for them - they're finished. Most of it I didn't see.

HOW RUDE WAS N'SYNC????? they were so shook up about how KILLER Justin was - if MJ had done it everyone would've said it was a return to form - that they presented the "last fan standing" thing - wherein a contest-winner gets to present an award - like they were telling everyone there would be an extra hour of school today or something.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 August 2002 05:16 (twenty-three years ago)

white stripes video was obviously the coolest video ever. p.s. i love how pink signs off on "but xX Xxx should come up and accept this because I don't really have anything to do with making videos"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 August 2002 05:39 (twenty-three years ago)

the vines won the battle of the bands because their lead singer stopped singing real words, then, in an attempt to be rock, he tried to smash his guitar but accidentally ended up swinging them into his drummers legs, perhaps injuring him. that's rock!

boxcubed (boxcubed), Friday, 30 August 2002 05:44 (twenty-three years ago)

dk = savant. genius review. like Dustin Hoffman hosting E! news daily.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 30 August 2002 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

boxcubed that isn't rock, that's just practicing a lot to 'come as you are.' (he does the same thing every show)

can we please call a.l. by her real, non-fronched-by-the-execs name, APRIL LEVINE?? come on you guys it's so obvious!

maura (maura), Friday, 30 August 2002 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

This is my favourite thread. Where's Motel Hell gone?

Eyeball Kicks, Friday, 30 August 2002 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I got bored with dk's singularly lowbrow commentary, and then utterly disgusted by Tracer Hand's assertion that Justin Timberlake is "killer" and went to go spit up in the toilet.

Motel Hell, Friday, 30 August 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

hottest current boyband member, also. fo sho. i would bring him to orgasm with my mouth

Best line of the hour!

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Friday, 30 August 2002 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

dk is my favourite writer, no question.

Eyeball Kicks, Friday, 30 August 2002 16:40 (twenty-three years ago)

what sort of dancing would you have preferred Motel Hell??

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 August 2002 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

the best thing about the MTV Awards without fail every year is the graphic design for the award sequences...everything else is utter shite!

blueski, Friday, 30 August 2002 17:28 (twenty-three years ago)

"what sort of dancing would you have preferred, Motel Hell?"

No dancing. No waifer-thin whispery singing (or lip-synching, for that matter). All of that stuff is complete garbage aimed at thirteen year olds with attention deficit disorder.

Motel Hell, Friday, 30 August 2002 23:41 (twenty-three years ago)

attention deficit disorder = good description of someone who thinks dk's writing is "lowbrow"

mark s (mark s), Friday, 30 August 2002 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)

"justin = the black michael jackson, avril lavigne is stupid, guns n roses = gay"

Ah, yes....I see it all clearly now. This is actually some of the most incisive, thoughtful and cleverly crafted commentary ever to grace these boards. How silly of me!

Bullshit.

Motel Hell, Saturday, 31 August 2002 00:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Motel is right. MVA should replace their silly "dancing and pop music for teenagers" with a fifteen minute slot featuring a man being sneering, petulant, rude and condescending to complete strangers who - unbeknownst to him - are ten times smarter than he.

Venga, Saturday, 31 August 2002 00:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh that's right. I'm not the one throwing the word "gay" around liberally, but *I'M* the one that's sneering, petulant, rude, etc.

Motel Hell, Saturday, 31 August 2002 00:31 (twenty-three years ago)

No dancing!? But that would be so boring! Maybe they could show an artsy film instead, like GYBE?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Saturday, 31 August 2002 03:35 (twenty-three years ago)

it took me a minute to figure out what this is about. i really enjoy the sentiment that shakira's dance is retarded. also about pink's pubic area. luckily if i want to see this, mtv will replay it for the next 6 months everyday.

ron (ron), Saturday, 31 August 2002 03:55 (twenty-three years ago)

also kelley osbourne says "we don't give shout-outs in England" in a sorry REALLY spoiled way NO you give big-ups you BINT

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 31 August 2002 06:56 (twenty-three years ago)

hi, guys.

it was nice of you to say nice stuff but if Motel Hell had made better points it wouldn't have been so easy. it was easy this time, but next time it might not be such a smooth ride. so, just be careful.

dk, Saturday, 31 August 2002 10:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Kelly doesnt even live in England - what does she know?

Shout-out to my mate Joe in Croydon...

see?

blueski, Saturday, 31 August 2002 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

dk do you have a blog?

The Timberlake performance and especially the track itself were astounding, but I'm not sure how well it will sell. I remember the paroxysms of praise around here for N'Sync's "Pop" single, but I think the futuristic-pseudo-2step-BT-production was a bit challenging for radio and slightly disappointing commercially.

And blueski, the design (especially the animated type) was awesome, but I think those sequences (on all MTV award shows) always go on about 5 seconds to long.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 31 August 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

"we don't give shout-outs in England"
So when Westwood goes "Yeah baby, yeah, Westwoo' baby, yeah, let's get the joints on baby, yeah, yeah, yeah, shout out for the Dirty Utoxeter Posse, yeah yeah, let's get the tunes on, yeah", what's going on there then?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 31 August 2002 19:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought everyone hated "Pop" but me..? "Failed meta-pop" if I correctly recall.. I liked a lot of Nsync's last album and Timbalake's new single seems awfully tight.

I liked dk's "...= gay" review especially after reading the five other G'n'R threads.

A.V. Alexandre (Keiko), Saturday, 31 August 2002 21:22 (twenty-three years ago)

"justin = the black michael jackson"

Oops, silly me. I thought Michael Jackson WAS black... wow, these days you can change a man's genetic makeup that easily. Wow. What have I missed?!

Daine, Tuesday, 3 September 2002 05:11 (twenty-three years ago)

the joke?

ron (ron), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 05:20 (twenty-three years ago)

There's jokes in this thread? Where?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 05:26 (twenty-three years ago)

look! another one!

ron (ron), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 05:40 (twenty-three years ago)

*Revive!*

dk = ILM's Unconscious!

(and it's structured like an MTV awards show!)

also, A.V. Alexandre, I think everyone - even at ILM - forgot about "Pop" in their end-of-2001 lists. It was definitely the most sonically ambitious track to appear in the Billboard top-ten last year (and that include Neptunes and Timbaland productions). I especially liked the lyrics!

Also, "Gotta Get Through This" is the first bonafide 2-step club track I've heard on regular American Top40 radio (started to a couple months ago - I'm not counting "Fill Me In"). I think it has to do with the track's unintentional (?) similarity to Latin Freestyle.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 23:04 (twenty-three years ago)

it was also crap (dirty pop not daniel b who i LOVE!!!)

simon trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 10:58 (twenty-three years ago)
