Hi Blueski,
She's the only singer that can make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, especially when she goes for those high notes on tracks like "Losing You" and "Don't Know What To Do With Myself"...God that was a voice!

too right! now can anyone identify for me the Dusty-sounding track that plays in the film Darling during the 'party scene' (the one where Julie Christie strays) ? lyrics something like "someone who understands..."

derek you inspired my latest thread...i generally dont listen to much music that existed before i was born (heh, for shame!) but Dusty's one old crooner who does the job...the Bacharach connection kinda helps i guess

Pet Shop Boys + Dusty Springfield = C or D?

No question about it. But you missed out my favourite song by her:

Am I the Same Girl?

Dusty's PSB flirtations were pretty fabulous too

Only the other day I was listening to a Burt Bacharach comp and thinking "damm I wish Dusty had sung ALL these songs"

Andrew L (Andrew L), Saturday, 31 August 2002 10:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I think we can put up with Aretha's Say A Little Prayer or Isaac Hayes' Close To You, Andrew (two on the Bacharach comp I have), but not an unreasonable thought.

My comp had Anita Harris and Cilla Black - not so hot.

haha I always wondered what Anita Harris was famous for - she was a singer! My comp has Christopher Cross on it, but most of it's good (Dionne Warwick, Walker Brothers).

I remember when my only association with Burt Bacharach's name was that he was some sort of object of scorn, oddly enough. Then I got to a certain age and I discovered that many of the pop songs from the 70's that have held up for me over the years were written by him. It was too late though, because in the mean time he had become cool. Even so, I still like him.

I like Dusty Springfield's singing, for the most part, but I have trouble with the way strings are used in many of her songs. (I know I've said that elsewhere).

Martin, can you imagine that I don't own any Aretha Franklin? What is my problem. Hopefully that will change some time in the next year.

She was fantastic. They way she bends the notes to get back out of the bridge in 'Son Of A Preacher Man' is spine tingling.

My fave track is 'What Do You Do When Love Dies' from the 'Memphis'sessions - it's on the De-Luxe version of Dusty in Memphis and (I think) was a B-side of something or other originally.
