Yea, the book to the musical is a clusterfuck that's never been nailed down, but the music is something else. a favorite of mine, one of the finest things to come from members of ABBA.

(No "Someone Else's Story", sorry, wasn't on original recording).

for me it's Pity the Child without hesitation. Murray Head's version makes the hair on my neck stand on end.

Probably have to go with "I Know Him So Well", which I love, tho I haven't heard this in its entirety for years and years.

that would have been somewhere in my top 5 I think.

Pascal (best known as the original Roger in Rent strains a bit on the high notes, and his version is no Murray Head, but to be fair, this one is live. I still like the concert recording from 2008.

was it Tom Ewing that made the comparison between One Night In Bangkok and West End Girls? it was a good spot whoever it was. anyway Where I Want to Be is a tuuune and it's the bit i recall most fondly from seeing it live in (gulp) 89 in Liverpool.

Cool, I've been curious about it for years and years.

had a friend in jr high who was obsessed with electronic composition and was a huge webber-rice stan, so i heard quite a bit of this. found "pity the child" quite moving and LOVED "one night in bangkok". only the latter affection survives, a bit worse for wear.

would've been better if they'd somehow been able to cast fischer and spassky in the lead roles.

dunno that I'd want to hear Fischer sing "Pity the Jews"

suge knight rider (Neanderthal), Sunday, 1 May 2011 20:23 (fourteen years ago)

I love "One Night in Bangkok", maybe it's time to get the CD!!!

OMG, the Movie! (u s steel), Sunday, 1 May 2011 20:42 (fourteen years ago)

wouldn't say that song is really indicative of the music on the album as a whole, although I still like it a lot.

I like the idea of subbing Fischer for Head ONLY if it's retroactive through all of Head's career – eg Fischer plays Judas in JCSS & shows up on the cover of a Smiths B-sides compilation. Head would be allowed to star in Searching for Bobby Fischer, however (with a little boy mask ala Strange Interlude?).

offee is for losers only, do you not c? (Abbbottt), Sunday, 1 May 2011 21:07 (fourteen years ago)

"Opening Ceremony", because it contains "The Arbiter", which is probably the best song in here.
