I love John Cale's viola playing. Fiery minimal string music recommendations?

(You probably already know of this guy, but I couldn't resist. "NO MORE ART!")

Just been offered an interview with him by his manger. (Craig D.), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 00:58 (fourteen years ago)

No I don't have a clue. This is awesome. Where should I start?

The album that track is on is maybe my favourite of his:

Also, have you heard Tony Conrad? "Four Violins" is incredible (mp3 is 3rd or 4th result when googling--here's an essay about it:

Whoa. Slow, cool, and nerdy~
I'm not familiar with his work, but I've definitely heard the name. I've been getting into some La Monte Young lately so this is cool. The threads are connecting. Thanks!

Wow that Henry Flynt is awesome! Thanks. I have heard some before, but none I like as much as that post above.

flynt actually filled in for Cale during a couple VU shows at some point in 1966-67. I think the story is that Lou Reed ended up punching him onstage.

The Valentina Goncharova tracks on this 8 CD set of Russian avant-garde music from the 80s are pretty great :

You can download them here I guess : http://www.leorecords.com/?m=select&id=CD_LR_801/808 (paid download though).

These fat new music boxes are pretty amazing. Improvised Music from Japan is what really got me searching.
