ugh ... this makes nu-metal from the early 2000s look like the fuckin' Golden Age ... or something

the bunny the bear has (well many many problems) but one such being the tendency of modern metal/hardcore drummer to not hit hard at all.

― coo coo khal (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:48 (fourteen years ago)
u confused
― Dziękuję bardzo panie robocie (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:50 (fourteen years ago)
unless the metal thread dudes are all date-rapists.
Gerard Cosloy's continual feud with Tony Brummel is really the only reason I know what a Victory Records is. Brummel is a real piece of shit.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 01:55 (fourteen years ago)
That particular Atreyu song and album were pretty good - metalcore with enough brains to steal Scorpions riffs. They went way downhill after that, though.
― that's not funny. (unperson), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 02:05 (fourteen years ago)
didn't they put out Between the Buried and Me, Alaska? that's a solid record

Shitty label, shitty bands. Can't even think of a token good band on Victoy.

― The Band Perry is the drummer for Gay Dad (jjjusten), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 04:56 (fourteen years ago)
in the past they've put out a few decent records here and there, but generally this is the worst label ever
― thread assessor (latebloomer), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 07:12 (fourteen years ago)
i have never liked anything on victory, to the point of bailing on iceburn, deadguy and electric frankenstein records due to label associations
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 07:26 (fourteen years ago)
otoh, in retrospect i was stupid and would like to have that deadguy record
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 07:28 (fourteen years ago)
"Right Side of the Bed" is a genuinely good song. The only one of Atreyu's that I'll defend. That band had promise, but as Phil said, they pretty much threw it away.
― A. Begrand, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 07:53 (fourteen years ago)
contenderizer you shld check the kiss it goodbye lp too. deadguy dudes. super heavy. think it might have been on revelation?
― bear, bear, bear, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 08:44 (fourteen years ago)
Why do so many of the band members in these bands have that Justin Bieber haircut? Weird.
― She Got the Shakes, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 09:36 (fourteen years ago)

my only comment is that i don't know what label they were on but i had to see Hatebreed open for Slayer once and it was the worst experience of my life
― suge knight rider (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:45 (fourteen years ago)
it's funny to hate on victory in 2011, they've been a running hardcore joke for decades now no?
― fauxmarc, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 14:02 (fourteen years ago)
none of the victory label bands are metal in any real way, no? this stuff is just modern day radio friendly alt-rock that sells to teenage girls who buy Kerrang or Revolver. nothing wrong with that per se and I can see why the alt-rock/pop sensibilities might appeal to the goons.
― Dziękuję bardzo panie robocie (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 17:40 (fourteen years ago)
They have actual metal bands on their roster - Otep, I'd say Emmure (deathcore is metal), Destropy, Carnifex, Within the Ruins, and they just signed old-schoolers Jungle Rot for some reason.
― that's not funny. (unperson), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 17:46 (fourteen years ago)
Jungle Rot are like The Thing of death metal - they always find a new label to host them & they keep making a new record
― five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 17:50 (fourteen years ago)
i don't know anything about this label's music but they used to be (like 4-5 years ago) constantly advertising jobs in the chicago reader that all sounded kind of sketchy and terrible
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 17:55 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think i've ever listened to a victory record? decibel dudes love that deadguy album. i would buy that i guess if i saw it for a dollar somewhere. i just got one of those early earth crisis albums in at the store, but i doubt i'll play it.
― scott seward, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 19:58 (fourteen years ago)
i was into boysetsfire when i was a teenager, that's about it. the matchbook ep is probably still awesome but that was out on magic bullet i think.
― fauxmarc, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 20:03 (fourteen years ago)
am I misremembering it or does the (apparently missing) part 2 of that Victory story get into c0ke & h00kers territory?
not that it'd amount to much more than window dressing but still
wonder if there's a 'Howling At The Moon' meets 'Our Band Could Be Your Life' kinda book in it
