nabisco (nabisco), Saturday, 31 August 2002 02:39 (twenty-three years ago)

man, they are way too "hip."

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 31 August 2002 02:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw this last week. My ass that's a six-year-old kid.

Jody Beth Rosen, Saturday, 31 August 2002 03:17 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, i was wondering about that too.
six year old boy: "dad! that sounds like robots!"

dad: "no, son. that's "electroclash"."

six year old boy: (cries)

In what way is this a good interview?

Sandy Blair, Saturday, 31 August 2002 06:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Do six year-olds even USE the term "ATM"? I know I always called it "the money machine".

Nate Patrin, Saturday, 31 August 2002 12:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Sandy: I dunno, I like watching a duo thought of as icy and hip trying to explain noise gates and vocal processing in terms a child would understand. They start off trying to be clever and guarded, but eventually give up and start answering honestly, and it makes them sort of interestingly awkward -- it's rare to see musicians, especially musicians like Adult, have to cede control of their image like that. And the "yes, that is a perfect example" and "that means he's a socialist hippie" lines are particularly gratifying.

In general I think more interviews should subvert musicians' tricks and tools for sounding cool and clever, or at least test them. For example I'd like to see a lot of MCs interviewed by, like, elderly white women. See how simply people can make cases for themselves as worthwhile. (Certain frightening charges aside, interviews I've heard with Mystikal make me believe he could get through an interview with an elderly woman really charmingly.)

Yeah,
not a bad point nabisco. Too many interviews seem to cater to a musicians desire to sound hip and cool. It would be awesome if more pointed out how artists can be and ususally are pretentious twats. and it might remove some of the twaddle you hear artists ramble about. its all for the "music"...."break new ground" ...."pushing the boundaries of....."

I think it is a good interview because they are more casual and probably a bit more real than they usually are in interviews. Do you really think that all they do all day is behave like "adult."

I finally got around to meeting them a few weeks back. I was really suprised, Nicola seemed very sweet and approachable. Very much not like the image I had of her beforehand.

one year passes...
It's really a 6 year old kid..He's 7 now. Some of the question were paraphrased to make a little more sense but they were all his questions.

Well, that was a long term follow-up.
