That's it. Which is more recognizable, not better or anything like that.

M&P's, don't think I've heard the Shirelles version.

Which version you hear most on the radio or tv or just around in different places.

bamcquern, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 21:24 (fourteen years ago)

none?

gospodin simmel, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 21:39 (fourteen years ago)

it's not that hard a question to understand. which is the one that you've heard more in your life, i think is pretty much the question

i would say MandP but when i was a little kid i think i would have said shirelles.

Like both. M&P's is better produced but the Shirelles kind of define the vocals for me.

Funny, I would have thought it was the Shirelles version, but I had to check to make sure and the clip on Amazon sounds a little foreign! So, I guess it's the M&P version, but like surmounter I think I heard Shirelles more a longer time ago. It was a number one hit!

UK/USA divide.

Do we forget the number 6 hit of Bitty Mclean?

Mark G, Thursday, 12 May 2011 09:48 (fourteen years ago)

Don't think I even heard this song until I watched Morvern Callar actually..

Devil Mo (dog latin), Thursday, 12 May 2011 10:50 (fourteen years ago)

Shirelles, no question.

very tight race in terms of quality, but w/r/t original question, Mamas and Papas, though I'm probably biased by Morvern Callar..

Yeah, I was gonna say. I've never heard the Mamas and Papas version on the radio in my life while The Shirelles version is a oldies radio staple.

I kind of don't understand how it's possible to have heard the Mamas and the Papas version of this more, but then again I grew up in a household of do-woppers rather than hippies.

Oops, I just relistened to the Mamas and Papas version, and now I remember it too. I think they both get lots of radio play in the US, so it's impossible to decide. But if you say "Dedicated to the One I Love", I immediately hear the Shirelles version in my head.

geir was right (wk), Thursday, 12 May 2011 17:25 (fourteen years ago)

Definitely the Shirelles

Mamas and Papas version is fine, but it's leaning toward some of their obnoxious old-timey a capella material.

It's obvious only to those of us looking through wrong end of fiberchalloptic thread
