Talking about stuff like Deee-Lite, the KLF, M/A/R/R/S "Pump Up the Volume," etc. Playing a ton of this stuff lately but wasn't there when it happened, so have limited knowledge. What else is essential: albums, singles, compilations, or anything else?

Stuff like A.R. Kane's second album 'i' also fits the bill, I'd say.

Great song but how is "Show Me Love" sampladelic?

S'Express: "Theme From S'Express"
Eric B & Rakim: “Paid in Full (Seven Minutes of Madness Remix)”
Royal House: “Can You Party”
Sand Party: "Lambada Festival"

Basically, you want K-Tel's The Hits Of House Are Here.

S'Express – Theme From S-Express 5:58
DTI, The – Keep This Frequency Clear 4:43
House Master Boyz And The Rude Boy Of House, The* – House Nation (Remix Edit)
Remix – Fernand Fidoré 3:35
Nitro Deluxe – Let's Get Brutal (Megamix)6:55
Bomb The Bass – Beat Dis (Extended Dis) 5:49
Criminal Element Orchestra – Put The Needle To The Record 6:27
Housedoctors, The – Housedoctors (Gotta Get Down) 3:54
Steinski & Mass Media – We'll Be Right Back 5:18
Eric B. & Rakim – Paid In Full (Seven Minutes Of Madness - The Coldcut Remix) 7:08
Beatmasters, The – Rok Da House Featuring – Cookie Crew, The 6:46
Gene And Jim Are Into Shakes – Shake! (How About A Sampling, Gene?)8:21

on Facebook I was just recently reminded of Edelweiss' "You Can Bring Me Edelweiss" (thanks Barry!) so there's that.
Also try Colourbox "Hot Doggie" and Baby Ford "Children of the Revolution"

Kim, Sunday, 15 May 2011 00:38 (fourteen years ago)

Excellent, thanks all. I've heard the Colourbox, Eric B. & Rakim, Steinski & Mass Media and of course Robin S. before—gonna check out the rest ASAP.

What else?

Royal House - The Journey
MC Tunes - The Only Rhyme That Bites
MC Tunes - Tunes Splits the Atom
Pop Will Eat Itself - Can U Dig it? (Justin Strauss 12" House Mix)
Mantronix - King Of The Beats

...and older but maybe still fits? - West Street Mob - Breakdance Electric Boogie

SSS, Sunday, 15 May 2011 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

doesn't the Strauss mix of Can U Dig It remove a bunch of the samples in favour of generic tinny synths? (nb have not heard it for about 20 years)

oh, possibly! less familiar with the original, actually.

3 Feet High and Rising and Paul's Boutique would both be good hip hop analogues to this stuff.

Neil S, Monday, 16 May 2011 12:29 (fourteen years ago)

ok, this was probably a leeds thing only, but the kisspower 12" got a fair bit of airplay on the dancefloors and certainly was sampladelic :

^^ also Radio Babylon by Meat Beat Manifesto! think Total Confusion by Homeboy Hippie & Funkie Dredd used a lot of samples as well?
also i've spent the last 10 minutes trying to remember a track....
about 1988, 1989. I think they were a German duo. the song was made up from samples from video clips, so when you watched the video you could see where the samples came from as they are introduced to the track. remember a piano being abused a lot. more experimental than dancey, like a proto Matmos maybe? either the band or the song was called The One or The Two or something like that.

...not Close To The Edit by the Art Of Noise? If not, please remember because this sounds ace!
