When the smack began to flow, Lou didn't care about 'em anymore. Who or what is a jim-jim?

I just read that the "colored girls" from the "and the colored girls sing" weren't actually colored. Perhaps Lou didn't really "wanna be black"?

I am assuming he wrote that part while high and/or watching Speed Racer.

It was supposed to be a Joyce-ian made-up word...

jimmythemod, Monday, 2 September 2002 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I know that but a smack-addled Lou probably didn't. (You ninnyhammer.)

Nate Patrin, Monday, 2 September 2002 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

hey! It's not Joyceiana but Arabilia.

the jinn-jinns are of course the jinn, the malicious spirits of the middle east, roughly translatable as 'devils'.

lou reed knew about them from the boxful that William Borroughs brought back from Tangiers. Together with a berber Opium dealer who lived on the Lower East Side, they released the jinn into the New York water system on Nov 1, 1966, with famous consequences.

This is all, by the way, entirely made up.

So THAT explains the giant lizards in NYC's sewers.

Proto-yuppies, maybe? Straight-laced, tie-wearin' gents in double-breasted suits in the accounting department at Verve Records, speculating over the financial ramifications about releasing albums that arguably glorify heroin use?

Actually, I doubt anyone at Verve Records ever wore double-breasted suits.
