these are all pretty worthy besides the rubberstamped lesser Prince, though

"Constant Craving" is my choice over "T.R.O.Y.". That accordion on "Constant Craving", plus my knowledge of k.d. lang's sexuality, made for some delicious (in retrospect) & uncomfortable psychic times in 1992.

Euler, Monday, 16 May 2011 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

voting Pete Rock but I like em all except for the mediocre Prince number. for a random sample, that's a pretty high ratio of good songs

backlash stan straw man fan (m coleman), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:47 (fourteen years ago)

Very close to stuck between probably the two most awesomeness sax riff ever to appear in a rap song but I prefer N2Deep's "Back to the Hotel" to "Rump Shaker", so Pete Rockism is in full effect.

(That's cool. I don't even know who K.D. Lang is, although I welcome enlightenment on that matter.)

i bet you'd recognize it if u heard it

farty f baby (Princess TamTam), Monday, 23 May 2011 00:40 (fourteen years ago)

Rev do yourself a favor and don't listen to it. It's the worst.

I trust your judgement.

The Reverend, Monday, 23 May 2011 03:52 (fourteen years ago)

Ugh. The only reason to listen to that shit is if your the assistant manager at Sam Goody and it's 1990 or something.

doobieborther, Monday, 23 May 2011 10:41 (fourteen years ago)

I kinda like "Constant Craving" :(

(voted TROY btw)

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 May 2011 12:28 (fourteen years ago)

It's a lovely song – so lovely that Jagger-Richards didn't realize they plagiarized it in 1997.

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 23 May 2011 12:31 (fourteen years ago)

all of these songs are great

It's one of those songs that I find so irritating I can't stand to hear more than a few notes of it. It's so whiney and annoying and UGH I HATE IT. I'm sort of mad at this thread because because it's now floating around in the back of my head and I can't get rid of it.

I don't even know who K.D. Lang is, although I welcome enlightenment on that matter.

wow what! she definitely has her moments, enough of them that enlightenment is worthwhile. for once ignore erica on this matter!

i like the whole ingénue album, from which "constant craving" is taken - this is my fav on it i think

the smoke cloud of pure hatred (lex pretend), Monday, 23 May 2011 23:42 (fourteen years ago)

ingenue really is the only album where kd lang really put it all together, she'd always sorta languished in the impossible patsy comparisons before that (cf jane's addiction w/ led zeppelin) and her really incredible 'so in love' for red hot & blue kinda pointed the way out. never heard alot of what came afterward and what i did hear didn't really make me that curious but i'd still take her over yr adeles, etc.

Who are you nine Under the Bridge voters???

Fear Moldova and the Nation of Leaners (seandalai), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 01:52 (fourteen years ago)

I'm too young to have experienced Rump Shaker when it came out. was it overplayed? why isn't everyone obsessing over it?

gospodin simmel, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 12:13 (fourteen years ago)

reminds me of 7th grade dances; I like it a lot but not as much as TROY (better sax hook I guess...?)

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 12:45 (fourteen years ago)

it is kind of funny that half of these songs have prominent sax

I was in 9th grade when it came out and it totally reminds me of HS dances. More specifically it reminds me of a particular girl name Lynn getttin' down in the middle of the dance floor while everyone gawked at her rump shakin' abilities. I feel like it was pretty huge at the time. He song, not her ass, although that was pretty plentiful too.

Lol true. I kept putting off voting because I hadn't listened to T.R.O.Y. yet (listening now, and it's amazing). Would have voted for "Rump Shaker" if I'd voted off what I already knew - and I wish I had, just to see it get past RHCP and Sexy MF

da croupier, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 13:28 (fourteen years ago)

Would take Das EFX over those two and maybe Constant Craving too, though I like all these songs well enough.

da croupier, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

it's like pop music's last hurrah of the sax before the Lady Gaga/Katy Perry resurgence

Señor Smang (some dude), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 13:32 (fourteen years ago)

I think k.d. lang's voice is honestly kind of amazing. I like this song of hers, too (from the next album):
