That was the "Close To Me" remix that appeared on the Mixed-Up album.

Wow, I thought that was just the video...they recorded it there too?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 2 September 2002 18:17 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, that Tim Pope-directed video pre-dates the remix album, and was originally released for the STANDING ON A BEACH compilation.

Man I love that compilation. It's going cheap now as well thanks to that new Cure compilation which is hardly essential.

one year passes...
What about the version of "Boys Don't Cry" from the video? Was that released?

rainman (rainman), Friday, 13 February 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Rainman, Boy's Don't Cry was their 2nd ever single but was re-released with a new vocal/mix in 1986.

I think he means the version (that seems "live") on the video compilation of Staring at the Sea (wherein the band, with spooky glowing eyes, play behind a pale curtain as a kiddie version of the band play infront). I've never heard that version outside of the compilation.

Single only version released in 1986 - new vocals but same backing track, I think

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Baaderist OTM; the b-sides were "Pillbox Tales" and "Do The Hansa".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Alex, that's exactly what I'm looking for. So, this is it, right?

rainman (rainman), Friday, 13 February 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, that's the "Boys Don't Cry"/"Pillbox Tales" 7-inch.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 13 February 2004 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Wicked, thanks.
