Sade > AotF > No Ordinary Love

jho'sh? "ice cr?m" jackson (The Reverend), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

Ass on the floor cleared the dancefloor in my dj set the other night :-(
was sad. then played So Good and Make Up Bag. didn't do much better.

reallysmoothmusic (Jamie_ATP), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

:-(

jho'sh? "ice cr?m" jackson (The Reverend), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 16:52 (fourteen years ago)

i would go w/rev's ranking, "sade" is now certainly neck-and-neck with "ass on the floor" and has probably slightly overtaken it

that's my hair no horses up there (lex pretend), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, the gap between the first two is much narrower than between them and "No Ordinary Love", which is still great in its own right, but not quite godlike.

jho'sh? "ice cr?m" jackson (The Reverend), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

"ass on the floor" is probably the outright best song, but i'm voting for "no ordinary love" for its innovation

sincerely hope this wasn't at atp....

all the way bernt up (tpp), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 16:59 (fourteen years ago)

it was. actually animal collective had just started so some people left for that but there was a definite 'oh i dont know this better stop dancing thing' DAMMIT

reallysmoothmusic (Jamie_ATP), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

i have heard almost zero DDM talk over here, which is pretty sad

reallysmoothmusic (Jamie_ATP), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

i love how the girls stretch out the last syllable on "i just wanna get high, kick it all dayyyyyy, listenin to sadeee, baby bring it right heeeere" - just sinking into the louche swing of the beat

the twinkling "sade" intro is so epic too

that's my hair no horses up there (lex pretend), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

voted for "Sade" because no outtake mixtape cut should be that good

lamp kind (some dude), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

actually animal collective had just started so some people left for that

oh lol at animal collective fans not wanting to stick around for one of the most amazing songs of the year

nguzunguzu started off their second set at night slugs the other month with "sade", extended beatless twinkling intro and all, i was enraptured, and then when they mixed it into jody breeze's juke reworking of "cherish the day" >>>>>>>>>>>>

that's my hair no horses up there (lex pretend), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

the interpolation of "No Ordinary Love" in the track of the same name suits her voice so well.

ginny thomas and tonic (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

haha rev you could've included the "ass on the floor" remix too, that's nearly up there w/the original for me now

that's my hair no horses up there (lex pretend), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 17:04 (fourteen years ago)

the twinkling "sade" intro is so epic too

yes

jho'sh? "ice cr?m" jackson (The Reverend), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

didn't think of the "ass on the floor" remix! my failing. :(

jho'sh? "ice cr?m" jackson (The Reverend), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

:( :( dammit. would have much preferred dancing to dirty money than sitting at the back bored by anco

AOTF >>> NOL > sade

its realy sad he was a drowner (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

all 3 are very good

its realy sad he was a drowner (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah

Tim F, Wednesday, 18 May 2011 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

on this, we all agree

jho'sh? "ice cr?m" jackson (The Reverend), Thursday, 19 May 2011 07:46 (fourteen years ago)

i'm voting for "no ordinary love" for its innovation

how is it any more innovative than the other two? unless you mean the three-songs-in-one thing, but that's no more innovative than any given medley.

that's my hair no horses up there (lex pretend), Thursday, 19 May 2011 08:10 (fourteen years ago)

Less innovation than craft IMO - the various sections and the beat all sound made for one another, "medley" sells it short I think.

Tim F, Thursday, 19 May 2011 08:35 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah i wasn't suggesting it was just a medley, it's really great, just not any more "innovative" per se than the other two options here

man you gotta be careful dropping 'ass on the floor' as a dj!! that shit is intimate & operates like deep house or something. its def not a floor filler. needs to be finessed 4 sure

D-40, Monday, 23 May 2011 23:32 (fourteen years ago)

also i dont have vinyl of it (would kill for this to exist!! does it??) but i imagine it would need some EQ work to hit a dancefloor 'right'

D-40, Monday, 23 May 2011 23:33 (fourteen years ago)

sorry if this is mad ignorant but -- my version of sade from the mixtape is much slower than the youtube one. what is the deal with that? i like the tempo of the youtube one much better

teflon dawn (uptown churl), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 11:30 (fourteen years ago)

the youtube one is sped up, so frustrating. i don't know why, it can't be the usual copyright infringement given that the song's a free d/l

the smoke cloud of pure hatred (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 11:31 (fourteen years ago)

The youtube one is sped up around 22% ... made an edit to match it at the same tempo, if you prefer that one. here you go:

I'm used to it at 89.
