POLLS in Dust: The Siouxsie and the Banshees "Tinderbox" Poll

"Cities in Dust" is the only one I can stand but it's a dancefloor classic. Goths be gettin' down!

The only one I couldn't imagine voting for is "Party's Fall".

I mean, do I go for danciest? Then it's "Cities In Dust".

Do I go for manic energy? Then it's either "Candyman" or "This Unrest".

Do I go for narrative? "Cannons" or "92°".

Do I go for prettiness? "Land's End" or "The Sweetest Chill".

Can I just have all of them, and swap out "Party's Fall" for "Umbrella"?

Had to be "Cities in Dust" for me but "Candyman" was close behind.

'Cities in Dust' or 'The Sweetest Chill'. Love the first half of this album but find the second half a bit dull.

i haven't listened to this album in forever. going to try and rectify that before voting instead of going with my guy and voting for "Cities in Dust." KROQ in Los Angeles use to play that song all the time.

crazy hard to choose here - Cities in Dust is the only one I wouldn't consider voting for. My first SOTB album and still my favorite - so fantastic.

I think I am the sole voter for 92º. I always wondered if the theme was taken from Ray Bradbury's "Touched With Fire." Does anyone know what the quote at the start is from?

First truly sucky Siouxsie album, and I say this as someone who bought one of the 1000 or so original *US* versions of "The Scream" when it first came out. Some albums were pure genius - like "The Scream" or "Kaleidoscope." Some were mostly fine - "Juju" and "A Kiss In The Dreamhouse." And a few had serious faults, like "Join Hands" and "Hyaena." But "Tinderbox" was the first Siouxsie album where they were clearly going through the motions, looking for some sort of US hit, and failing to be inspired much at all. It's not an awful album, but it's one where they decided to play it safe instead of taking any sort of chances at all. Even the b-sides were weak, and this from one of the greatest b-side bands ever. Siouxsie, Severin and Budgie have all lamented as much, either in interviews or personally to me. The only sadder thing is they kept going!

This is where Dan and I assure you it was actually pretty good.

Yes, insane. It's a different side of SATB, but it's a cracking album nonetheless.

Artists are a poor judge of their own work anyway. ;-)

the drumming on "umbrella" is amazing. the 12-string guitar that sounds like it's dying is pretty cool too.

Recently discovered the bonus tracks on the reissue. Excellent stuff which reminded me of how great this era was

"Party's Fall" deserved a vote.

Recently revisited this album after hearing Siouxsie play "Land's End" in Pasadena a couple weeks ago and would have voted for it now if the poll was re-run

My sentimental favorite Siouxsie album because it was the first I heard. Carruthers guitar work is stellar.

I'm really surprised "Party's Fall" got zero. I probably voted "Cities in Dust," but in '86 or now I wouldn't hesitate to choose "Party's Fall" as my next fave.

I always suspected Talking Heads' 'Memories Can Wait' was an influence on "Party's Fall: something about the discordancy, the 'party' theme, and it being another "bummer song that gets joyous at the end".

Sonic Youth could have done a great version of "Party's Fall"
