"Cities in Dust" is the only one I can stand but it's a dancefloor classic. Goths be gettin' down!

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 20 May 2011 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

The only one I couldn't imagine voting for is "Party's Fall".

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Friday, 20 May 2011 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

I mean, do I go for danciest? Then it's "Cities In Dust".

Do I go for manic energy? Then it's either "Candyman" or "This Unrest".

Do I go for narrative? "Cannons" or "92°".

Do I go for prettiness? "Land's End" or "The Sweetest Chill".

Can I just have all of them, and swap out "Party's Fall" for "Umbrella"?

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Friday, 20 May 2011 17:07 (fourteen years ago)

"Party's Fall" inspired this poll!

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Friday, 20 May 2011 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

for real though, I would rather have this (because I am a big goth):

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Friday, 20 May 2011 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

Had to be "Cities in Dust" for me but "Candyman" was close behind.

Sean Carruthers, Friday, 20 May 2011 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

okay I've narrowed it down to 5: "Candyman", "This Unrest", "Cannons", "92°" and "Land's End"

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Friday, 20 May 2011 17:23 (fourteen years ago)

'Cities in Dust' or 'The Sweetest Chill'. Love the first half of this album but find the second half a bit dull.

immer wieder, ralf & günther (NickB), Friday, 20 May 2011 20:21 (fourteen years ago)

u crazy

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Friday, 20 May 2011 20:23 (fourteen years ago)

Forgotten how much I love the tickley drumming on 'The Sweetest Chill'. Nice guitars too, it's Carruthers isn't it on this one?

immer wieder, ralf & günther (NickB), Friday, 20 May 2011 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

yeah

just a gorgeous song

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Friday, 20 May 2011 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

i haven't listened to this album in forever. going to try and rectify that before voting instead of going with my guy and voting for "Cities in Dust." KROQ in Los Angeles use to play that song all the time.

Bee OK, Saturday, 21 May 2011 01:28 (fourteen years ago)

guy is gut, lol

Bee OK, Saturday, 21 May 2011 03:02 (fourteen years ago)

crazy hard to choose here - Cities in Dust is the only one I wouldn't consider voting for. My first SOTB album and still my favorite - so fantastic.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 09:46 (fourteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Thursday, 26 May 2011 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

18 votes for a seminal post-punk band... No wonder so many of my threads lay fallow. Or maybe it's my lack of deodorant.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 26 May 2011 23:06 (fourteen years ago)

I think I am the sole voter for 92º. I always wondered if the theme was taken from Ray Bradbury's "Touched With Fire." Does anyone know what the quote at the start is from?

free inappropriate education (Abbbottt), Friday, 27 May 2011 02:41 (fourteen years ago)

First truly sucky Siouxsie album, and I say this as someone who bought one of the 1000 or so original *US* versions of "The Scream" when it first came out. Some albums were pure genius - like "The Scream" or "Kaleidoscope." Some were mostly fine - "Juju" and "A Kiss In The Dreamhouse." And a few had serious faults, like "Join Hands" and "Hyaena." But "Tinderbox" was the first Siouxsie album where they were clearly going through the motions, looking for some sort of US hit, and failing to be inspired much at all. It's not an awful album, but it's one where they decided to play it safe instead of taking any sort of chances at all. Even the b-sides were weak, and this from one of the greatest b-side bands ever. Siouxsie, Severin and Budgie have all lamented as much, either in interviews or personally to me. The only sadder thing is they kept going!

crustaceanrebel, Friday, 27 May 2011 04:41 (fourteen years ago)

This is where Dan and I assure you it was actually pretty good.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 27 May 2011 04:58 (fourteen years ago)

wtf - crazy talk - Tinderbox is prob my favoirte SOTB album.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Friday, 27 May 2011 08:05 (fourteen years ago)

Yes, insane. It's a different side of SATB, but it's a cracking album nonetheless.

Dr.C, Friday, 27 May 2011 08:44 (fourteen years ago)

and A Kiss in the Dreamhouse is "just fine"?

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 27 May 2011 11:04 (fourteen years ago)

Artists are a poor judge of their own work anyway. ;-)

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Friday, 27 May 2011 13:24 (fourteen years ago)

seven months pass...

the drumming on "umbrella" is amazing. the 12-string guitar that sounds like it's dying is pretty cool too.

lost dion/tomita collab (blank), Monday, 16 January 2012 22:38 (thirteen years ago)

crazy results - "Cities" is by far my least favorite song on this album

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 10:16 (thirteen years ago)

I still wish I could have voted "Umbrella"

also I wish that the Rihanna hit was a cover

Bam! Orgasm explosion in your facehole. (DJP), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

love love love this album. i might have voted 'cannons'

donna rouge, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 17:43 (thirteen years ago)

"Cities" is the only good song on this album.

John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)

eleven years pass...

Amazing album. That last post 11 (!) years ago...never change, ILM.

SQUIRREL MEAT!! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Thursday, 1 June 2023 23:22 (two years ago)

Recently discovered the bonus tracks on the reissue. Excellent stuff which reminded me of how great this era was

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Friday, 2 June 2023 07:01 (two years ago)

"Party's Fall" deserved a vote.

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 2 June 2023 07:09 (two years ago)

Recently revisited this album after hearing Siouxsie play "Land's End" in Pasadena a couple weeks ago and would have voted for it now if the poll was re-run

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 2 June 2023 12:51 (two years ago)

My sentimental favorite Siouxsie album because it was the first I heard. Carruthers guitar work is stellar.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Friday, 2 June 2023 13:33 (two years ago)

I'm really surprised "Party's Fall" got zero. I probably voted "Cities in Dust," but in '86 or now I wouldn't hesitate to choose "Party's Fall" as my next fave.

Josefa, Friday, 2 June 2023 14:04 (two years ago)

It's a bummer song that gets joyous at the end

Josefa, Friday, 2 June 2023 14:39 (two years ago)

^^ otm

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 2 June 2023 14:56 (two years ago)

I always suspected Talking Heads' 'Memories Can Wait' was an influence on "Party's Fall: something about the discordancy, the 'party' theme, and it being another "bummer song that gets joyous at the end".

Dr Drudge (Bob Six), Friday, 2 June 2023 15:08 (two years ago)

Sonic Youth could have done a great version of "Party's Fall"
