The Cathedral record was my second favorite from last year (Voice of the Seven Thunders was tops) so I'm picking it here.

EZ Snappin, Sunday, 22 May 2011 02:24 (fourteen years ago)

the man who forsook his wife for fap fap fap (sic), Sunday, 22 May 2011 05:59 (fourteen years ago)

contenderizer, Sunday, 22 May 2011 10:03 (fourteen years ago)

No Owen Pallett or Los Campesinos!, so Janelle Monáe just ahead of These New Puritans.

if, Sunday, 22 May 2011 10:43 (fourteen years ago)

Fair enough I was just being a dick

D-40, Sunday, 22 May 2011 14:12 (fourteen years ago)

happens.

I wanna take the opportunity to rep for the New Young Pony Club album, which is p great. Sort of a Elastica-meets-Marina-&-the-Diamonds synthy postpunk kindof album. Seems like this is the album everybody was trying to convince me It's Blitz was...

excitebikable boy (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 22 May 2011 14:17 (fourteen years ago)

listening to E Wizard right now on Youtube; okay yeah I must admit I really like this. A lot.

But still voting Anika, methinks

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 May 2011 14:57 (fourteen years ago)

I think the only things I heard on this list from beginning to end were the High on Fire & Swans

you need to get that Big Boi album IMO

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Monday, 23 May 2011 15:01 (fourteen years ago)

List is missing Emeralds, gonna vote TNP

immer wieder, ralf & günther (NickB), Monday, 23 May 2011 15:03 (fourteen years ago)

Pantha du Prince followed by Demdike Stare followed by Anika or Monae.

◦ ⃝◦ ⃝◦ ⃝◦ ⃝◦ ⃝◦ ⃝◦ ⃝◦ ⃝◦ ⃝◦ ⃝◦ ⃝ (Moka), Monday, 23 May 2011 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

Hand on heart? If I was voting now this list would probably contain Emeralds, Earl, Owen, Waka and possibly Caribou.

PG Harpy (Doran), Monday, 23 May 2011 17:49 (fourteen years ago)

eh...I really liked the two Caribou songs that made it into the last year's singles countdown, but I thought Swim was a bit fussy; I like Walls (& Dylan Ettinger) much better now

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 May 2011 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

I went to see them/him live a few times recently and I always forget how much I really like Caribou until I see them live. But yeah, Walls is a better album.

PG Harpy (Doran), Monday, 23 May 2011 21:01 (fourteen years ago)

Liars was #1? I really like Liars, even, but Sisterworld has no business in a top 10, let alone #1.

Z S, Monday, 23 May 2011 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

these new puritans - not as good as "we want war"

lol, would like to know ANY album that is as good, in its entirety, as its very best song

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, was a cheap shot. good album.

contenderizer, Tuesday, 24 May 2011 17:14 (fourteen years ago)

that TNP album was fantastic and "We Want War" isn't even the best song on it

Tom Skerritt Mustache Ride (DJP), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 17:18 (fourteen years ago)

I love that the proggy orchestral horn stuff on that album is more convincing than the dark electro-postpunk stuff. Hidden is definitely one of my favorites from that list...

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 17:57 (fourteen years ago)

shining

blbllbllllllrlrrghgghhh (jjjusten), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 18:01 (fourteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Tuesday, 24 May 2011 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

I know that it brands me as a pariah around here, but I totally voted for King Night.

fffv, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

ew

Tom Skerritt Mustache Ride (DJP), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 19:16 (fourteen years ago)

If all the "rapping" was excised, I would have rated that album much higher.

'what are you, the Hymen Protection League of America?' (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 19:17 (fourteen years ago)

it's okay, I just thought the EPs were better

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 19:18 (fourteen years ago)

(from what I've heard)

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 19:18 (fourteen years ago)

I have had to vote for the Jane Weaver record, as it is the only one the behind the times new Dirty Vicar has yet heard. However, I love it to bits, and doubt that any of the other records could possibly be better than it.

The New Dirty Vicar, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 19:19 (fourteen years ago)

After all their purple prose for Killing Joke, they didn't cite Absolute Dissent? Frown.

Alex in NYC, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

Failing that, i'm going with SWANS.

Alex in NYC, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

This is actually a pretty decent list, as far as 2010 lists went. Probably have to stick with Janelle Monae though.

'what are you, the Hymen Protection League of America?' (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

wow. did not expect that.

contenderizer, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 23:06 (fourteen years ago)

way to call it contendo lol

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 23:07 (fourteen years ago)

(it's a badass album)

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 23:07 (fourteen years ago)

only #47 in the regular ILM countdown, but it was #1 in the metal countdown...I guess this indicates that a(n unsurprising) correlation of ppl who vote in that and ppl who vote in this poll (esp. since #1 of the regular poll got second w/ 4 less votes)

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 23:10 (fourteen years ago)

(actually to be perfectly honest i'm more surprised by how close the results hew to the results of our eoy list--a couple of deviators but it's p close to being right on...)

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 23:13 (fourteen years ago)

Help me Lucifer!

PG Harpy (Doran), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 23:17 (fourteen years ago)

?!

how come you didn't vote for Liars, Doran?

pax raggetta (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 23:17 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't vote here actually. I thought it would have been verging on slightly demented.

The Quietus lists are based on the votes of three people - so it's not exactly the same as my own end of year poll despite being relatively similar.

My own top five was Swans, Electric Wizard then Lindstrom and Christabelle, then Liars, then Cathedral I think. I actually did vote for KJ but the other two guys in the office aren't fans of that album.

PG Harpy (Doran), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 23:33 (fourteen years ago)

I would have voted for Cathedral (my #3 for the year).

o. nate, Thursday, 26 May 2011 01:13 (fourteen years ago)

There were a lot of choices on here where I really loved a handful of songs but thought the album itself was kinda weak (or at least flawed), like the Gil Scott Heron one. Electric Wizard's one of the few that was good all the way through.
