The Quietus Top 40 Albums of 2010

The Cathedral record was my second favorite from last year (Voice of the Seven Thunders was tops) so I'm picking it here.

i have only heard three of these records! wild.
mulatu astatke, toure/diabate and big boi ... hmmm. i'm not with it anymore.

lol tyler those might be the 3 albums I'm least likely to listen to

been going through a bunch of these lately; think I'm going to end up voting for Anika

(I mean, i def like Big Boi and everything I've heard from that album so far...)

but still, def not listening to it

this list is a good mix of white ppl i've never heard and token rap/r&b - toughie

no i'll listen to it; i look forward to it

I think the only things I heard on this list from beginning to end were the High on Fire & Swans

literally the next 3 albums from this list that i want to check out are gil scott-heron, high on fire, and gayngs

No Caribou or Four Tet (but Walls and PdP?!) means These New Puritans get my vote.

high on fire - great, too bad about the cover

I wanna take the opportunity to rep for the New Young Pony Club album, which is p great. Sort of a Elastica-meets-Marina-&-the-Diamonds synthy postpunk kindof album. Seems like this is the album everybody was trying to convince me It's Blitz was...

listening to E Wizard right now on Youtube; okay yeah I must admit I really like this. A lot.

Hand on heart? If I was voting now this list would probably contain Emeralds, Earl, Owen, Waka and possibly Caribou.

eh...I really liked the two Caribou songs that made it into the last year's singles countdown, but I thought Swim was a bit fussy; I like Walls (& Dylan Ettinger) much better now

I went to see them/him live a few times recently and I always forget how much I really like Caribou until I see them live. But yeah, Walls is a better album.

Liars was #1? I really like Liars, even, but Sisterworld has no business in a top 10, let alone #1.

that TNP album was fantastic and "We Want War" isn't even the best song on it

I love that the proggy orchestral horn stuff on that album is more convincing than the dark electro-postpunk stuff. Hidden is definitely one of my favorites from that list...

I have had to vote for the Jane Weaver record, as it is the only one the behind the times new Dirty Vicar has yet heard. However, I love it to bits, and doubt that any of the other records could possibly be better than it.

After all their purple prose for Killing Joke, they didn't cite Absolute Dissent? Frown.

Failing that, i'm going with SWANS.

This is actually a pretty decent list, as far as 2010 lists went. Probably have to stick with Janelle Monae though.

only #47 in the regular ILM countdown, but it was #1 in the metal countdown...I guess this indicates that a(n unsurprising) correlation of ppl who vote in that and ppl who vote in this poll (esp. since #1 of the regular poll got second w/ 4 less votes)

(actually to be perfectly honest i'm more surprised by how close the results hew to the results of our eoy list--a couple of deviators but it's p close to being right on...)

I didn't vote here actually. I thought it would have been verging on slightly demented.

The Quietus lists are based on the votes of three people - so it's not exactly the same as my own end of year poll despite being relatively similar.

My own top five was Swans, Electric Wizard then Lindstrom and Christabelle, then Liars, then Cathedral I think. I actually did vote for KJ but the other two guys in the office aren't fans of that album.

I would have voted for Cathedral (my #3 for the year).

There were a lot of choices on here where I really loved a handful of songs but thought the album itself was kinda weak (or at least flawed), like the Gil Scott Heron one. Electric Wizard's one of the few that was good all the way through.
