"Lost In Your Love" IMO.

Tim F, Monday, 23 May 2011 04:19 (fourteen years ago)

^agreed, i've been playing this one the most recently - "lost in your love" just over "number one hit". "lost in your love" is such a clean song that it almost seems like it should come off as corny, but somehow it avoids being saccharine and is just a total joy to listen to. the melody on the verses is just absolutely ambrosial, and the opening few lines are perfect too. in another era this would be a huge summer hit

"Not Feelin' the Love." Can't even imagine what the MJ version would have sounded like.

Though yeah, you could make a really compelling case for "Lost In Your Love" or "Love Letter." This is a really great record.

Lost in Your Love for sure. The simple melody of the hook has been stuck in my head for months. My wife got annoyed with me humming it all the time, and she's pretty patient.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Monday, 23 May 2011 04:28 (fourteen years ago)

It has a very Step in the Name of Love vibe to it.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Monday, 23 May 2011 04:28 (fourteen years ago)

it does! wow i didn't notice that

Love the bass on Just Like That.

I feel like this album is divided in two halfs. The first half is all easy-going summer-time vibes, the vocals flow out so effortlessly and the tracks all have a step-touch-n-snap-to-the-beat feel. Then comes Taxi Cab (which Im still not sure about) cutting the album in half stylistically. The second half goes all doo-wop, but this is where Kelly pushes his voice and lets the vocals shine. He fits both styles so naturally, there's an understated confidence on this lp that's very addicting.

I feel like he could put out two albums like this a year until hes 60.

this run of songs is fucking incredible:

7. "Taxi Cab" 4:00
8. "Radio Message" 3:50
9. "When a Woman Loves" 5:10
10. "Love Is" (featuring K.Michelle) 3:24

i should really use this poll as an excuse to revisit this album -- i checked it out when it dropped, really enjoyed it a few times, then didn't stick with it. from what i remember "Not Feelin' The Love" was my favorite, though.

Waluigi Weingoomba (some dude), Monday, 23 May 2011 19:41 (fourteen years ago)

The title track over "Taxi Cab." I really must buy this already.

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 23 May 2011 19:44 (fourteen years ago)

My experience was the same as some dude's, didn't give it enough time although I enjoyed it right off the bat

D-40, Monday, 23 May 2011 19:51 (fourteen years ago)

it's between "taxi cab" and "love is" for me, though it's one of those albums where i perhaps prize the ~cumulative effect~ more than any isolated track

Where would you guys rank this album in the Kelly canon?

"not feelin" the love is prob my fave off of this, but "number 1 hit," and "taxi cab" are also classic

The Brainwasher, Monday, 23 May 2011 20:24 (fourteen years ago)

god "when a woman loves" is such an irredeemable piece of shit

vocally it's fine, but the song is bland and the production is horrid

Waluigi Weingoomba (some dude), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 03:01 (fourteen years ago)

it's like a 'production music' knockoff of "When A Man Loves A Woman" that changes just enough notes to not be infringement

Waluigi Weingoomba (some dude), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 03:02 (fourteen years ago)

I like it as a song, although its tune isn't why it's brilliant. As far as the production goes, I just pretty much have grown to accept cheap Casio orchestra sounds as an essential R. Kelly tic as much as raunchy lyrics or that water drop sound.

skot gigz - moombah pimpin' (The Reverend), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 03:51 (fourteen years ago)

its not close to the best song & is pretty underwhelming but imo al is def overstating how bad it is

lebroner (D-40), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 03:52 (fourteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure I would have voted for it if I hadn't more recently become a "Taxi Cab" obsessive.

skot gigz - moombah pimpin' (The Reverend), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 03:54 (fourteen years ago)

can we get some love for "radio message" up in this thread

k thx

"Radio Message" is totally corny in the best way possible.

I don't get the love for Taxi Cab, feels like a complete departure from the rest of the album. Maybe that's the appeal? It's been the only track I skip on a consistent basis.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 06:44 (fourteen years ago)

yeah same here

max tldr (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 10:04 (fourteen years ago)

best part of the album is the "number one hit" to "taxi cab" suite.
voted "taxi cab"
