I underwent an intricate and long surgical procedure on Wednesday of last week, and after a few hours in the recovery area I was wheeled into my room, in a thick haze of narcotics. When visiting hours expired and I was left facing the long night alone, I put on my headphones and somehow found my way to this record. While I can’t say I’d wish the experience on anyone else, it was unforgettable, and one of the deepest listening experiences I’ve ever had. Drifting between light sleep and dull wakefulness, I felt inside the record, its dubby pings and hisses my mental walls, the limits of my spatial existence. What an incredible album.
