Looking for non-English European megahits

In a couple of weeks I'm going to be DJing at a European-themed party, with guests from all over Europe. I'd like to play some local hits, but my knowledge of non-English music is pretty limited.
So I'd appreciate it if anyone could point me to some ABBA/Beatles-sized instant floor fillers from the 60s to the 90s, from countries like Germany, France, Spain, Greece, the Czech Republic...

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 08:11 (fourteen years ago)

Do you mean non-English as in it has to be in a foreign language? Or just from foreign countries? The second will be much easier (you mention ABBA!)

WHO THE FUCK READS THE (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 08:17 (fourteen years ago)

I used to DJ at similar events and it's relatively difficult to appeal directly to everyone at the same time. I used to mix big French / German / Russian / etc stuff and hope people just went with it.

Desenchantee by Mylene Farmer is an instant win with pretty much everyone though. Nur Getraumt by Nena is a safe bet too.

I'll think of more.

the spanish version of one step beyond by madness : Un Paso Adelante

the italian version of one step beyond by madness : Un Passo Avanti

depending on the crown this surely has to be an easy floor filler !

Thanks for these first recommendations! (xp: ABBA also released many of their hits in other languages.)

Do you mean non-English as in it has to be in a foreign language? Or just from foreign countries?

What I'm looking for are songs that were big hits in only one or two countries, so I guess that would mean foreign language.
I'd love it if I'd play something from Greece and see all the Greeks rush towards the dancefloor while the other guests wonder what the hell this is :)

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 08:36 (fourteen years ago)

"Self Control" by Laura Branigan (or the original version by Raf) was a huge hit across Europe iirc

Pino D'Angio's Ma Quale Idea is known by EVERY Italian and few non-Italians

I ain't sure if it counts as a megahit, but this one rules too:

A few more Frenchy ones:

Luna Parker's Tes états d'ames Eric is a classic but i think i prefer the version by Leslie and Teki Latex.

Leslie also did a cover of Princess Sophie de Monaco's Comme Un Ouragan. The original is the one to go for though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOUdQdsaE1c

Recent stuff:

Yelle - Je Veux Tu Voir (although Parle A Ma Main with Fatal Bazooka was bigger)
Make The Girl Dance - Baby, Baby, Baby
Sexion d'Assaut - Desole
Stromae - Alors on Danse

Gah! Stephanie de Monaco rather than Sophie, of course.

A few Polish hits:

Monika Brodka's a massive star in Poland and, conveniently, brilliant.

Zodiak by Monopol was one of the biggest songs of 2009. Kasia Stankiewicz's Francuzeczka always went down well when i was DJing too.

ShariVari mentioned Monopol, so I gotta throw in another Polish megahit/guilty pleasure (personally I don't like as much as many do) - Sokół&Pono "W aucie" (2009)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6Gdg9hhOas

massive popularity of this song led to a revival of Franek Kimono - kinda jokey, but filled of killer basslines 80's project sung by a popular actor Piotr Fronczewski. this one's called "King Bruce Lee karate mistrz":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyntWur6K6o&feature=related

basically play those two in Poland and you have your floors filled on instant
