I've given up on finding the 1996 or 2000 versions of this http://art.half.ebay.com/prod/368059.jpghttp://art.half.ebay.com/prod130/368059.jpg; Is there somewhere out in chilly cyberia where someone had the lists for 1996 or 2000 available?
Yes, yes, yes, I already know that a german guy has the 1998 list up. That won't help me. I already own the 1998 version. I want to trade it in for the other two.

Hold on Lord Custos aren't YOU Colin Larkin?

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 07:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Does he list the best 1000 albums released in 1996? If so, I reckon he must be DJ Martian.

1996 was definitely a good year (but does it beat 1993 and 1994?). If only for the fact that it had four Ildjarn releases...snapshot:

Ildjarn - Forest Poetry
Ildjarn - Landscapes
Ildjarn - Strength and Anger
Sort Vokter - Folkloric Necro Metal
Astral Projection - Trust In Trance
Celestial Season - Celestial Season's Sonic Orb
Deinonychus - After the Rain Falls an Empty Sky Remains
Summoning - Dol Guldur
Burzum - Filosofem
Forgotten Woods - The Curse Of Mankind
Eboman - Donuts With Buddah
LTJ Bukem - Logical Progression Level 1
Sacramentum - Far Away From The Sun
Mütiilation - Vampires of Black Imperial Blood
Countess - The Book Of The Heretic
Mysticum - In the Streams of Inferno
3rd & The Mortal - Paintings On Glass
Biosphere & Higher Intelligence Agency - Polar Sequences
Cardigans - First Band On The Moon
Elend - Les Ténèbres du Dehors
Graveland - Thousand Swords
Kruder & Dorfmeister - DJ Kicks
Cryptopsy - None So Vile

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Will I ever see Burzum and LTJ Bukem mentioned in the same breath again? Doubtful...

Tom:Hold on Lord Custos aren't YOU Colin Larkin?

Nope. But I am essentially doing the same thing he was doing, except the list I'm compiling isn't in "'best' (whatever that means) album first", its alphabetical/chronological order so it will be easier to use.

Also...to DJ Martian and Siegbran: thanks for your suggestions. your votes have now been added to the database.

Lord Custos Alpha (Lord Custos Alpha), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

god what a crap year for music! still! (didn't we do a 96 thread a while back?)

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

But anyhow...back to the main question...
Does anyone know where C. Larkins first and third lists are posted? (I discovered that the first was actually called "The Guinness Top 1000" and it came out in 1994 rather than 1996. Though that still didn't help my Google search...or Hotbot search...or Alltheweb search...)
Extra mystery bonus points to anyone who knows where I can pull down a PDF version of either of these books.

Lord Custos Alpha (Lord Custos Alpha), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe you should e-mail the german guy and ask him if he has a copy of the older lists?

Sophie Bextor Elvis (Sophie Bextor Elvis), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmmm. I thought about that. I sure hope he speaks some English because the only words I know in German are the kind that instigate fistfights.
I already sent a query to Julian White at rocklists, but in retrospect it was a pointless thing to do. If he had the list, I'm sure he would've posted it already.

Lord Custos Alpha (Lord Custos Alpha), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Lord Custos check this website which will help you with your research Cool Music Database

Tried it?
* I found that site 2 years before I found Freakytrigger/ILM.
* I cloned the entire site onto my hard drive.
* I've even contributed a couple lists to it.
it's f*ckin ace even if what you're after aint there.
I agree.

five months pass...
Lord Custos Alpha:

I, too, have been trying to get the complete lists from 1994 and 2000. I even tried to buy the 2000 version of the book, but to no avail. If you ever find those puppies, let me know, would ya?

Another Colin Larkin fan,

one year passes...
I wouldn't take anything serious that colin larkin writes. He's a cynical twerp, who has no serious opinions on music.
