Why is a Snare Drum called a Snare Drum? Why is a Snare called a Snare? Is it related to the word 'ensnare'?

The snares in some of my favourite Jungle tracks certainly are ensnaring.

Because of the strands of wire stretched over the base of the drum,
which are called 'snares' and whose name derives from wire traps for
catching ('ensnaring' as you say) birds/animals.
