That "stars so light," etc. chorus on "Settle Down" knows how to push my buttons. Kind of hit me even harder driving home from work tonight.

The silence here is a bit remarkable.

She's okay. I've heard a few other songs of hers 3 or 4 months back and, while she does a good job of mostly standing out in a crowd, she's not someone I'd listen to with any frequency.

You might want to check out Vows. I'm finding myself listening to it more than I had expected. The earlier cuts are generally stronger (or more immediately accessible) as songs, but I'm finding I'm getting to appreciate the later part of the album as well, partly for the attention to detail and the way everything fits together well. But I'd even say I find the melodies stronger in some of those songs, after repeated listens.

She is sort of exceptional but not-that-exceptional, or that's what my original impression was, but I'm wondering what it is that is bringing me back so much. Too soon to say.

"The Build Up": the one track here that one is fully justified in invoking the name of Kate Bush in discussing. Is that what she's talking about when she mutters something about plagiarism on the final, hidden track? It sounds very Dreaming-era Bush, though certainly not 100%.

I like that one gotye song she sings on but that's about it, really.

'exceptional but not-that-exceptional'
pretty much

I caught her live the other night, it was a little choreographed and, I don't know, cutesy. Like just challenging enough to be called quirky without being too challenging to play on breakfast radio. She's definitely part of a highly staged machine trying to grind out a starlet, which normally wouldn't bother me, but it did that night for some reason.

three weeks pass...

I would like to disown the description: 'exceptional but not-that-exceptional.' I really like this album but don't have much to say about it. I still suspect I won't know how I actually feel about it until a year has passed.
