I only have two of 'em - the 2CD versions of Good Times and Raised On Rock - but they're pretty great. I hope they do one for Promised Land soon, as those three albums are sort of a trilogy. I'm also planning on buying some of the other '70s albums, like Elvis Now and Elvis Country. They're $30 a pop, so it's tough to justify an impulse purchase.

that's not funny. (unperson), Sunday, 12 June 2011 12:27 (thirteen years ago)

some of these are a bit much with 200 outtakes of the same song, but i have to say that listening to a full session is actually quite a powerful experience sometimes. you really get a sense of elvis's virtuosity as a singer and his (occasional) perfectionism.

i bet this series can keep on a bit longer even after the crash of the CD market because elvis's diehard fans probably tilt older (like over 50) and haven't gone completely over to MP3s, etc. as far as i can tell they haven't slowed down.

my recommendations are the deluxe version of "that's the way it is" (one of my favorite elvis LPs and my favorite elvis film, probably) and the no-brained jungle room sessions.
