OK I'm going to be spending most of the next 24 hours finialising the report I've been working on, and will want to download lots of stuff to relieve the boredom of it. Specifically what I'm after are:

- tracks 4 minutes or under (cos my connection is slow so big files are out)
- good hooks
- no non-sampled guitars unless absolutely neccessary

Simple, eh? Can you help?

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Amerie's "Why Don't We Fall In Love"
Bounty Killer's "Sufferer"
Eek-A-Mouse's "Ganja Smuggling"
Tweet's "Drunk"

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Moondog - Symphonique #6 (good for goodie).

I wasn't taking the piss the last time I mentioned it, though perhaps it was percieved as such, especially as I wasn't as funny as I thought I was when I gave a joke description.

So no description this time. If you like it read about it on Allmusic.

Manu Chao - "Bongo Bong"

Greatest song ever. Well, sort of.

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 3 September 2002 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Scream by The Four Corners. Yeah, proper guitars, but it's two minutes, and the hook's a mutha...

"Uno Song" and "Paint by Numbers" by Self. (some Self info here but not the studio versions of those tracks)

fosca 'secret crush on the third trombone' or any of the songs on their excellent new album most are under 4 minutes.

keith, Wednesday, 4 September 2002 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Trio Mocoto, "Que Nega E Essa." Running time is 5:10 but it is some damn funky, fast, hooky shit.

Jody Beth Rosen, Wednesday, 4 September 2002 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, had to stop downloading last night because Soulseek was crashing my connection.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone (even people who obviously think guitars are "absolutely neccessary"). The Nivea track is marvellous, thankyou DK. I already had Blu Cantrell which I like a great deal too. The Thugs track is downloading now.

Who are the Capoiera Girls?

Siegbrand your lists are a bit daunting! I will look for ones with interesting titles. Or just Scooter.

I've heard two New Pornographers tracks including one of the ones mentioned (I liked it but found it rather shrill) and another one which was dreadful.

Manu Chao - "Bongo Bong"
Greatest song ever. Well, sort of.

No "sort of" about it. It is.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 08:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Bit early in the morning for Mo Thugs as it turned out though Amerie is making more sense at this time of day.

I downloaded the Christina single, "Dirrty" - title best thing about it. File next to "Freeek!" in the 'oh dear' box.

The little Manu Chao I've heard has washed right over me but three recommendations equals a download I think.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i am v jealous. soulseek does not work through our firewall at work. perhaps my imminent flat hunting will involve a rethink about having the melonfarming interweb at home.

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

P!NK - "Catch 22" ;-)
Las Ketchup - "The Ketchup Song"

zebedee, Wednesday, 4 September 2002 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The Manu Chao song is really annoying. Strike Nabisco, Jody and Dom off the 'trusted' list :)

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 08:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Moondog is delightful - thankyou Sandy.

The Mission of Burma song is tedious - I'm still missing something with this band, obviously.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom Klea-Tick Tock, it's NOT dance tune! It's definitely a pop tune and possibly the best one I've heard this year, I did a thread but noone had heard it so I guess Irish radio are the only ones playing it.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Twin "A New Day"
Freak Power "Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out (Radio Mix)"

Sean Paul "Gimme The Light"
Mis-Teeq "B With Me"

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, check that thread again. I did reply :)

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea who the Capoeira Girls are. A friend put the song on a tape for me. I put a thread up looking for an ID on it last week but I found out eventually. It's a breakbeat track but it's got a nice be-dop-bop jazz vocal so it's not out and out dancey.

four months pass...
Can anybody help me out with a five to ten song British Invasion primer? Essential stuff that nearby Kazaa users are likely to have, ideally.

My recommendation - find 'Strawberry Fields Forever (Take 7 & edit)'. Ringo gets heavy at the end.
