Pinball machines and pop - no really.

My question of the week. Mentioned in the Appitite For Destruction Classic Or Dud was the Guns'N'Roses pinball machine which sits pride of place in my bar. It is a thing of beauty and will be a joy forever - even though the bands heyday is well past.

So anyway, what with the expansion of graphics and electronics and design in the pinball world, are there any other pop themed pinball machines out there? Surely someone must have done a Tommy one as well. If this gets little reaction, I will also allow imaginary pinball machines as long as they are well described.

Many years ago on holiday in Spain I played a wicked Kiss pinball game, complete with Gene Simmons samples and the like.

Pete -- You started out this thread by naming the single greatest pinball machine of all time, never mind "pop themed" pinball. When the guitar bit from "Sweet Child 'O Mine" comes on, that's absolute genius.

Does anybody remember the Journey video game? I used to play it all the time. It was kind of a Donkey Kong-type thing, except you would steer little animated versions of Steve Perry and Neil Schone (and the other guys, whoever they were) through the puzzles as tracks like "Wheel In the Sky" played in MIDI versions. God, what a strange memory that is.

Aerosmith game for Megadrive: shite, although the evil baddies' logo is very very close to a NIN logo, which is amusing.

I was going to mention the Kiss machine(s). They were The First Band To Appear On A Pinball Machine, which is an honour they must be proud of. A quick search reveals this page which, among other great trivia, mentions that Slash has the loudest pinball machine in the world (it plays "Welcome To The Jungle"), which he designed himself. I bet Pete's isn't that good.

i remember when i was young some kids i knew had the michael jackson sega genesis game, which apparently involved you moonwalking and making little kids follow you. mildly disturbing at the time, very disturbing in retrospect.

oh, and i saw a tommy pinball game in the window of a abandoned store a few weeks ago, sitting amongst a bunch of other non who-themed machines.

There's Kiss, there's Tommy, there's Guns and Roses, there's the Ted nugent game, there's Monster Bash, (not based on any band, but definitely rock and roll), there was a Gottlieb game called "Rock" in the seventies, and another hilarious one called "Punk!" in the early 80's, and I remember one from the early 90s called "Garage Band Goes on World Tour" or something like that.

haha, i remember seeing that michael jackson game in an arcade... if you collected enough goodies, you turned into captain eo or something, and when you were in trouble, bubbles the chimp would come help you out. also, if you tried to pick something up that wasn't there, it looked like you were doing the crotch-grabbing move. whoa.

Here is a list of musical themed pinball machines. There was Beat Time (featuring "The Bootles", a mach of The Beatles) 9/8/1967 Williams model 324. This was the first band on a pinball machine. A number of these machines have been redone to actually have the Beatles on it. There was Dixieland 10/10/1967 Bally model 817. There was Rock -N- Roll 4/23/1970 Williams model 381 (similiar to Jive Time, but convertible from add-a-ball to replay operation). There was Jive Time 4-29-1970 Williams model 380 (Jive Time is the Add-A-Ball only version of Rock `N' Roll). There was King Rock 5/??/1972 Gottieb model 326. There was Super Star 8/21/1972 Williams model  378 (convertable to Replay or Add-A-Ball). There was Big Star 9/2/1972 Williams model 414 (add-A-Ball only version of Super Star). There was Wizard 9/06/1974 Bally model 1027 (Wizard was inspired by the movie 'Tommy. Includes representations of Roger Daltry and Ann-Margaret on the backglass). There was Rock On 9/??/75 Allied Leisure Industries, Inc. There was Disco 6/??/1977 model 100. Then came Kiss 4/25/1978 Bally model 1152-E. There was Dolly Parton10-6-1978 Bally model 1162-E. There was Ted Nugent 11/??/1978 Stern model 108?. There was Rock Star 12-??-1978  Gottlieb model 432 (game is an Add-A-Ball version of Blue Note made for export to Italy. There was Blue Note 2/??/1979 Gottlieb model 423 (game also produced in an add-a-ball version for Italy named Rock Star). There was Rolling Stones 6/12/1979 Bally model 1187-E. There was Disco 6/??/1979 Allied Leisure Industries, Inc. (cocktail Table Machine, no back glass). There was Punk 12/??/1982 Gottlieb model 674. There was Rock 10/??/1985 Premier model 697. There was Rock Encore 4/??/1986 Premier model 704. There was Heavy Metal Meltdown 8/??/1987 Bally. There was Al's Garage Band Goes On A World Tour 12/??/1992 Alvin G. and Company. There was Tommy Pinball Wizard 2/??/1994 Data East. There was Guns ‘N Roses 7/??/1994 Data East. There was Monster Bash 7/??/1998 Williams model 50065. And don’t forget the Sega Genesis pinball video game Crueball 1992 featuring Motley Crue. Although the Crue doesn’t appear (Alister Fiend does), three Motley tracks are on it. Dr. Feelgood, Home Sweet Home and Live Wire. Journey and Michael Jackson had video games. Aerosmith: Revolution X was available for the Sega Megadrive. They may be a few others.

I can email anyone a ROM set of the Journey (Michael Jackson is way too large to send through email) game for MAME to be played on any computer.
