Bobb all the way (sure I'm biased!)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 June 2011 14:47 (thirteen years ago)

Note that both have first names ending in double letters. Elliott Smith was disqualified.

James & Bobby Quantify (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 16 June 2011 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

Bobb partakes more often of the ethereal beauty of the will-o'-the-wisp, and Emitt is more polished but not as polished as he might be with more help, but yet...

Hoping Tom D and ian will weigh in.

Bobb. Emmitt flatters to deceive. Expectations with Bobb are so low that you can't help but admire the fact it's actually pretty good.

How about Bobb v Michael Yonkers?

The two divergent styles really appeal to different parts of the brain, maybe not a fair poll matchup.

no qualms whatsoever about voting for Emmitt; his first album owns front to back.

XBOX BING GOATSE (jamescobo), Monday, 20 June 2011 22:38 (thirteen years ago)

This is actually a pretty tuff decision for me. Both are folks whose music I enjoy say 90% of the time, but I don't find myself actually /moved/ by, and I don't find myself singing their songs while I walk to work. I don't own any Rhodes albums anymore, where I used to own 3. I own the Trimble reissues, largely because once they're unavailable they'll be harder to re-buy than the Rhodes records, which, while slightly obscure, are still all over the place for reasonable prices. I haven't really tried with Emitt in maybe 5 years though. Maybe it's time!

haha, 6-6. I voted Rhodes. Trimble seems pretty good but I could never get too into him. I would honestly rather listen to Ariel Pink instead. Is that wrong?

Ariel Pink is pretty bad :(

This thread has inspired me to pick up some Emmit. I bet he's at the public library.
I like Bobb, had an intense listening experience with Harvest of Dreams after some dental work.
I didn't vote fwiw.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

Ariel Pink is pretty bad :(

Uh, no. Unless you hate killer songwriting. In which case I'm guessing you voted Trimble over Rhodes.

Guys, keep it down. Emitt and Bobb are sensitive souls who would be greatly disturbed by all this fighting.

Time will show the wiser.
