Anyone here like them? They are all over Pandora. They have their moments..."Goaltime Exposure" has a great chorus but an incredibly dull verse. "Color Me Badd" and "A Series of Small Flames" are pretty good too. Can't figure out if the lead singer intentionally sings so that her lyrics are inaudible or if it's just me.

they're ok, but i haven't put much effort into listening them TBH. just saw them play a set at NXNE, which was decent. they strike me as a post-sarah harmer/weeping tile kind of band. is that the case?

What no one else like this band? Shame on you.

calstars, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 03:21 (twelve years ago)

Love this band; was just listening to Fun and Laughter today, and Some Are Lakes is one of a small handful of CDs that never leaves my car. They haven't updated their Facebook or Twitter accounts for a couple of years, which makes me worry they broke up.

Me too. Whatever did happen? I remember looking a few months ago but with no satisfactory answer forthcoming. God those were great, underrated albums.

finn_the_scot, Tuesday, 30 December 2014 00:38 (ten years ago)

I look into them every year or so, trying to figure out what happened. Even emailed their old publicist; no luck.

Forgot to post that they are back from hiatus (or at least Elizabeth is). Looking forward to new material.

What actually reminded me of this thread was hearing this:

Lovely and certainly Land of Talk-esque esp. vocally around the 40 second mark.

sadly not taken with this, too slow and plodding

nice cinemagraph video though

Her voice is the draw for me, so the tempo isn't a negative. Actually, find it lulling in a good way. Glad she's back! Long time until May. I'll pre-order this.

Been sitting with the album for quite a while, and it's been a slow grower but it's pretty wonderful, probably on par with Cloak and Cipher

Well in keeping with the band's history this album didn't move the needle at all. I gotta believe in a few years this band is going to be rediscovered and appreciated, though, because they've made some truly inspiring music

One of my favs from the new one:

Evan R, Monday, 4 December 2017 17:59 (seven years ago)

Giving the new one another spin but yeah, zero movement. Though I’m sure the fans came out for the shows - a lotta pent up love there.

calstars, Monday, 4 December 2017 18:41 (seven years ago)

dang didn't even realize they were touring (the shows didn't come anywhere near here). It's so easy to just imagine them disappearing after this album cycle, possibly forever; would hate it if I never got a chance to see them

Evan R, Monday, 4 December 2017 19:01 (seven years ago)

Yeah she played NY at a pretty sizable venue for at least two nights IIRC

"It's Okay" fuck yeah

ur-oik (rip van wanko), Monday, 4 December 2017 20:26 (seven years ago)

god I still love the old indie rock, when it sounds like this

ur-oik (rip van wanko), Monday, 4 December 2017 20:27 (seven years ago)

goes well with Big Thief

ur-oik (rip van wanko), Monday, 4 December 2017 20:29 (seven years ago)

There is something defiant about the record. Like "oh, indie rock doesn't sound like this anymore? Too bad, we've still got new ideas to express." That insularity really works for them

She seems pretty subdued on this one, which is totally cool, I support any music she makes. But that old fire and wrath...

Somehow never really knew about this band but I'm enjoying Indistinct Conversations a lot, esp. "Footnotes" -> "A/B Futures." Sounds like fire and wrath, though I don't have the old version to compare...
