I omitted "Cuts You Up" -- too easy, and three or four songs here are at least as good.

"Deep Ocean Vast Sea" is a helluva intro -- heavy!

A Strange Kind of Love (Version One)

I'm voting for this, but with the caveat that I'm actually voting for the remix that was used in the video.

"Seven Veils"/"Crystal Wrists" is a longstanding favorite one-two from this one, even if the latter has that "what WERE you thinking" line about boys in blue rinse eyes gazing whistly at Pete's slender thighs.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:50 (fourteen years ago)

i think i have heard this album a million times, voting "Deep Ocean Vast Sea."

"Crystal Wrists" has a lovely jangle.

"Marlene Dietrich..." is lovely, period.

Caught him twice that year of release, great shows both and his take on "Marlene" at the first one was pretty special.

love almost everything besides either Roll Call, and I don't remember Shy. ASKoL is the one responsible for ruining my walls with candle wax when I was in high school so that one.

haha this is one of my favorite things about "Crystal Wrists"

tbf, all the lyrics on this album are pretty ridiculous. those first few lines of "Cuts You Up" will always stick with me as some str8 beautiful ish though:

I find you in the morning
After dreams of distant signs
You pour yourself over me
Like the sun through the blinds

I still don't know what I'm voting for. "A Strange Kind of Love" maybe? I kind of love "Crystal Wrists" though.

He did "Deep Ocean" and "Marlene" at the show this past Sunday -- but not "Cuts You Up," ergo honoring the spirit of this poll.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 3 July 2011 01:53 (fourteen years ago)

except that him playing "Marlene" doesn't honor the spirit of this poll :(

Cosmo Vitelli, Sunday, 3 July 2011 04:22 (fourteen years ago)

OMG I would have voted for Marlene Dietrich so fast, but I did not see this poll :(
Listening to this album made me feel so ~adult~ when I was a teen.
