i don't mess with facebook junk. i should probably get everyone's email addresses down and ditch the thing

Yeah as soon as I saw how much it depended on Facebook information, I knew it wasn't for me no matter how cool it is.

TechCrunch:
You join via Facebook; for controlling growth, you must have a friend on Facebook that is already a user of the service at the moment. After logging in, you browse the different music rooms or create your own. If there’s an open DJ spot (five maximum to a room), you click “Play music” and your avatar transports to the stage. Queue up some songs—they have an extensive library or you can upload your own. Songs played in the room rotate evenly between the DJs. Listeners in the room can then “awesome” a song (and their head starts to bob, and the DJ gets a point) or they can “lame” a song. As users earn more points, they unlock different avatars. Listeners can also add the song to iTunes, Spotify, Last.fm, or their Turntable queue.

Ugh. Nevermind. Realizing this is just a competition for "cool points" completely ruined whatever interest I may have had in it.

this sounds really stupid
― dirty deathdrone boys (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 04:15 (fourteen years ago)
i guess i don't get the appeal of sitting on your computer + listening to random fools pick songs for you to listen to

Crash and burn...
Turntable FM, the latest music-related social networking tool to cause a buzz, has hit legal problems and has been forced to close its service for users outside the United States.

wow, that's really shocking

god is great

Pro tip: avoid any Web 3.x/social media startup that has a big write up from TechCrunch

Outloud . fm works pretty good, sign in using twitter OR facebook. I just started this page if anyone wants to spin, just drag and drop from your finder.

This. I guess I originally thought it would be you and your approved friends doing the picking, which could be kind of cool if you got the right people involved. But, no thanks, I don't need random Facebook nerds voting me "lame" because I don't play enough LMFAO or whatever.

fwiw, we've had this running for weeks: http://outloud.fm/ILXORS
― Alpaca Lips (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 04:40 (fourteen years ago)
depending on who's in the room, you get a pretty good variety of (almost always) good things to listen to. Plus, unlike turntable.fm, the chat window is the main emphasis of the screen and there's a lot of talking happening.

turntable.fm is really made for children, I think. Or tweens at least.
― Alpaca Lips (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 04:44 (fourteen years ago)
That sounds terrible, I won't even look at it.

I guess I can't help seeing it, if it's on the NME's page. This is cute, but I think it's something an intelligent child could do. Not for an adult sensibility.
― Mount Cleaners, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 13:08 (fourteen years ago)
Outloud.fm chat has been going for ages on the old Listening Room thread: ILXOR Listening Room - DJ my day
― emil.y, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 13:10 (fourteen years ago)
Not for an adult sensibility.
Hence the NME page.

I like the idea of a room full of strangers (as opposed to facebook friends or ilx friends or irl friends, who probably don't have hugely varying sensibilities) from all over the world bonding over weird disparate multicultural jams through the magic of the shiny happy internet, but I can't see such a place not being dominated by "your music sucks; isn't my music amazing?" narcissists, "your music gets jizzed on by black horse cock; here's 100 Anal Cunt songs played end to end/the soothing sounds of Jonestown/sextape audio" trolls, and shameless self-promoters. multimedia chat rooms don't usually end well.

I still like the idea though.

I had about 1 hour on it on Saturday before it went US only. Meh.
― Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 14:04 (fourteen years ago)
As has been said, it has been working out fine for us on outloud.fm with only the occasional bit of aggro.

This has been cool. We had an all-jiggy rap room tonight.

yeah I definitely fuck with this site during work
found a good punk / garage / psych room yesterday
― dmr, Friday, 1 July 2011 12:09 (fourteen years ago)
search function is hit or miss but the fact that you don't have to upload everything is key, imo
