Great records by cult artists, age 60 and above

This is becoming a very interesting trend. In the past few years, obscure old timers like Ian Hunter, Alejandro Escovedo and now Garland Jeffreys have quietly been making some of the finest rock and roll music around. Anybody else we can add to this most encouraging of lists?

Just listen to Coney Island Winter, the new song by Garland Jeffreys. Not many people have come out with a better song this year.

that's a fantastic video and song. never heard of the artist before. thanks for that.

i never paid attention to this now over-60 artist before, and i normally dislike his backing band on this project, but lately i've found this roky erickson and okkervil river disc to be gritty and tender and heartbreaking.

(Little) Jimmy Scott's LPs from the past thirty years (he is currently 85) tend to be patchy assortments of covers, but when he nails it, he nails it. This, of course, is incredible:

dunno if he still plays, but I saw him abt seven or eight years ago & he was great!

wow always thought the Jimmy Scott on that twin peaks track was a woman. amazing track - what albums of his are worth going for that sound similar to that track?

I love Rick Berlin, who's been making sad, funny, beautiful music (pretty much under-the-radar, unless you live in Boston) since the mid 70s.

Jandek (probably born in 1945) is still going strong, I would recommend the first Glasgow CD with "The Cell" on it as a legitimate "great record".
