Love every single song, esp the droney "Automatic," but "Our Lips" is alltime.

"Can't Stop the World," whose goodness makes me wonder why Kathy Valentine didn't write every song.

"How Much More, " which to me captures every element of the band's aesthetic in one brief package.

I like "We Got the Beat" in Fast Times, otherwise no. "Our Lips Are Sealed" I still like. But "Can't Stop the World" has always been my favourite.

Love every track on this album but it has to be Our Lips Are Sealed, it's such a perfect song.

I only just got round to listening to Vacation, wasn't too impressed with it. Do people rate any of the other albums?

BATB
Talk Show
Vacation (which I no longer own)

"Lips" is eternal...it always transports me back to an extremely depressing time in my life; that I still love it, says a lot

Race Against Rockism (Myonga Vön Bontee), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 17:51 (thirteen years ago)

I love Belinda's cry of agony in "Lust to Love."

Which explains why Belinda wasn't asked to write many lyrics.

Damn this thread, I have work to do but I'm surfing Go-Go's vids on youtube. Vacation LP is no BatB, but it still holds a place in my heart (and on my laundry room wall, where I still have a cardboard promo display with the water-skiing girls.) More overtly surfy and kitschy than Beauty, but I find even the seeming throwaway filler charming.

Our Lips Are Sealed, but really, the whole damn thing.

jer.fairall, Friday, 22 July 2011 04:49 (thirteen years ago)

I went for We Got The Beat over Lips are Sealed. Fun, frothy album.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

That's pre-Kathy Valentine, btw. They pulled a Pete Best on their founding bass player just before they hooked up with IRS.

I had this album when I was six. "Fading Fast" was my favorite then, and still is. Though "Tonight" needs more love.

thinveneer, Monday, 25 July 2011 01:32 (thirteen years ago)

(X-post) The old bass player also appears in their clip from Urgh!: A Music War.

I was certain I had heard the Stiff single before, but listening to the original "How Much More" just now was revelatory. Gina tearin' it up!

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Monday, 25 July 2011 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

Probably not that surprising, though I might have expected "How Much More" to take in a few more votes. Seems right that the album's weakest track would get 0, but it would've been nice to have seen "Automatic" get at least one vote (though I say this as someone who went the "Our Lips Are Sealed" route)

jer.fairall, Monday, 25 July 2011 23:23 (thirteen years ago)

ohhhh man I NEED that Stiff single now, never knew they were different versions/lineups.

"We Got The Neutron Bomb" has a great great section on the making of this album.
