I voted for the one I'd like someone to give me in the street because I haven't heard it.

OK?

Mark G, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 12:30 (thirteen years ago)

Tip top.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 12:30 (thirteen years ago)

dammit now i've got to be snarky across 2 threads?

dave lool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 12:32 (thirteen years ago)

No, the other thread is for serious discussion. This is the snark thread.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 12:33 (thirteen years ago)

The other thread is tumbleweed.jpg then?

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 12:34 (thirteen years ago)

lol Mercury is serious business

dave lool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 12:36 (thirteen years ago)

yeah so most of these are snore or shite, i like Ghostpoet but he might be on the cusp of snore i.e. he is nearly one of those Urbans you can take home to meet your dinner party. I'd probably like the Silcock record, nice title. otherwise if this reflects yr listening taste in 2011 you might wanna consider drinking a bucket of mercury or something

dave lool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 12:38 (thirteen years ago)

Tinie Tempah - Disc-Overy

wtf is a overy?

scraping wheatus off the wheel (NickB), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 12:40 (thirteen years ago)

xpost i think that would deserve a prize.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 12:41 (thirteen years ago)

I adore the PJ Harvey. The Jon Hopkins & King Creosote is very very nice. I've played the Calvi once, judgement reserved. The rest I've not heard. Amusing to see Metronomy and KC/JH both nominated as they're essentially concept albums about opposite ends of the British Isles, which is somehow pleasing to my mind.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 12:45 (thirteen years ago)

Difficult tossup between Katy and PJ but I think I've played the Katy B album slightly more than I've played Let England Shake.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Thursday, 21 July 2011 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

Surely Guy Garvey's sucked enough media cock to win this year

Colin Allstations (PaulTMA), Friday, 22 July 2011 00:58 (thirteen years ago)

No way would they become 2-time winners ahead of PJ. I hope.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 22 July 2011 09:40 (thirteen years ago)

Those results are hilariously predictable. ILM in being, well, ILM shockah. Surprised though, TBH, that there's none with no votes. That's unusual.

Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Friday, 22 July 2011 09:41 (thirteen years ago)

Dunno, can't imagine who else but PJ would win in a straight "music" board poll..

Mark G, Friday, 22 July 2011 09:43 (thirteen years ago)

I hang out on some other forums, and some very different top ponies emerge. (But then again, I'm actually shocked by the amount of hatred that Katy B generates in some parts of the musical world.)

Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Friday, 22 July 2011 09:45 (thirteen years ago)

i've seen katy b called stuff like "chav music" elsewhere. it's funny, the hostility to katy b seems to come from two directions - 1) that kind of snobbery, 2) antipathy among "pop fans" to her supposed "coolness" in using, shock, beats that are actually decent (see: near-total refusal of popjustice to acknowledge her existence)

lex pretend, Friday, 22 July 2011 09:47 (thirteen years ago)

Well, in our house it'd be a choice between Tinie and maybe Adele. I can imagine they'll be hoping for Tinie.

I probably should have bought the PJ, but as you say, her being great is entirely predictable.

I'm just having too much fun recordig my old mono vinyl and running it through the 'remove the right and left channels leaving the middle' declick process, and now I have nice sounding mono versions of "Satanic", "WhiteLight" and "Nancy/Lee" although that last one still has a fair bit, surprisingly enough.

Mark G, Friday, 22 July 2011 09:50 (thirteen years ago)

It would be kind of boring if either Elbow or Adele won. Would be happy to see Katy B win, don't think that PJ Harvey needs it at all (or is she someone that's overlooked these days?). Other than that I don't feel all that strongly about any of these.

Quantum of Pie (NickB), Friday, 22 July 2011 10:00 (thirteen years ago)

I nearly blocked someone on my twitter feed for calling her "the dubstep Joss Stone" because that's just incorrect on so many levels. I'm not sure what that lot have against her, I think there is a snobbery in certain parts of the dance scene that is "anything even vaguely dubstep-like = chav music" but when you're talking to someone who's a freaking Boys Noize fan, it's like... UM? You're gonna pose that kind of snobbery, in the face of Will.I.Am collaborations? Weirdly tribal, I guess, and I'm too old to figure out where the tribe denominations are any more. ::shrugs::

Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Friday, 22 July 2011 10:12 (thirteen years ago)

I have almost literally no idea who Katy B is. But I doubt that's a surprise.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 22 July 2011 10:16 (thirteen years ago)

i thought the dance snobs outright hated will.i.am too? i am way outside the anthropology of genres too at my age so my only thing with Katy B is she hasn't really clicked with me and she's not really on the kids' map so i don't get exposed to her much.

loving Ghostpoet more by the day, quite fancy a little bet at 12/1. it's v. Mercury, god help the lad.

graveshitwave (Noodle Vague), Friday, 22 July 2011 10:16 (thirteen years ago)

i tend to like anything that wankerscum call chav music btw

graveshitwave (Noodle Vague), Friday, 22 July 2011 10:17 (thirteen years ago)

xps without seeing the incident, so to speak, I'd imagine it's cos she kinda sorta looks a bit like Joss Stone, if you're standing a distance away kinda thing

nude defending a headcase (DJ Mencap), Friday, 22 July 2011 10:17 (thirteen years ago)

I'd thought the "AntiKatyB" thing was based around the "BritSchool" process...

Mark G, Friday, 22 July 2011 10:18 (thirteen years ago)

thing about that is it seems to be almost entirely incidental to her career arc

nude defending a headcase (DJ Mencap), Friday, 22 July 2011 10:19 (thirteen years ago)

Chav music, indeed. For what it's worth, Katy B's live show is mostly played by real musicians on real instruments. Even Jools would approve.

mike t-diva, Friday, 22 July 2011 10:26 (thirteen years ago)

i thought the dance snobs outright hated will.i.am too?

That's exactly it.
