hi, this is Tom Bailey from the Thomson Twins. i wonder if it's acceptable to be the artist and ask for this surgery, and to not appear vain! i was reading through the board and it's made me quite rorty!

Tom Bailey, Thursday, 5 September 2002 08:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I really really hope this is genuine.
I'll play along anyway. Search: "You Take Me Up"!

zebedee, Thursday, 5 September 2002 08:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Search: Into The Gap (the song)
Destroy: everything after 1986 (apologies to Mr Bailey)

Zanny G, Thursday, 5 September 2002 09:00 (twenty-three years ago)

_The Gap_ is one of the best albums of the 80s. Every track on it is fantastic, but search especially "You Take Me Up", "Sister Of Mercy" and "Into The Gap". Also search the song on the _Red, Hot + Blue_ compilation.

Destroy? I can't think of a Thompson Twins song I'd destroy.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 5 September 2002 09:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Search: early, Eastern-sounding stuff. Still searching for: later stuff. Never heard any of the post '86 stuff. Any place where I can get a few samples?

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 5 September 2002 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

S = your funky-white-dread-big-band phase
(saw you at Crewe and Alsager college, Cheshire c1980)

D= your three post-punkers go pop! phase. Not my thing, but good as it goes.

... I bumped into one of your former colleagues in Maison Bertaux, Soho a couple of years ago. She was setting up some new women's magazine, was it on the internet?

We got chatting - turned up in conversation she'd been in the Twins.

jon, Thursday, 5 September 2002 10:14 (twenty-three years ago)

search: all their records. destroy: all their records. can music get more vacuous? nice hair, tho'.

angelo (angelo), Thursday, 5 September 2002 10:29 (twenty-three years ago)

If this was legit, do you think he'd really have mis-spelled the name of his own band....twice?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 5 September 2002 11:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you dying for a 'P'?

Tom Bailey, Thursday, 5 September 2002 11:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Alrighty, I'd say:

SEARCH: "Lies" (easily their very finest hour), "In the Name of Love," "If You Were Here," "Hold Me Now," "Lay Your Hands"

DESTROY: Their horrid cover of "Revolution," "Doctor Doctor."

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 5 September 2002 11:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Not only am I dying for a "P", Meester So-Called Bailey, I'm dying for a domain name that's actually real. =)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 5 September 2002 13:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean, you. are. detective!
I didn't think it through, did I? I suppose I just wanted to feel for a moment what it felt like to be Tom Bailey. Perhaps I should stick to dressing up. I don't suppose you'd believe me now if I confessed to actually being Daniel Johnston?

Tom Bailey, Thursday, 5 September 2002 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Or Nick Rhodes, the synthesizer player in Duran Duran?

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought you were responsible, Roy. It had you all over it. You shouldn't cry wolf so much, because one day when you really are Tom Bailey, noone will believe you and will think you're a bloody idiot.

Normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

By the way, what are we gonna' get for 'er indoors?

Normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't give me your problems, 'cos this one's yours.

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

You're just sulking now.

Normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 14:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Am not.

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, you are.

Normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 14:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

when i was a kid i always though 'Doctor Doctor' was about that time Michael Jackson got his hair set on fire during a show....this was probably the fault of Kid Jensen or some other mischievous misinformer

We Are Detective: i love grammatically incorrect song titles

blueski, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

hey, hey, hey -- you two: Roy, normie! For sake's SAKE. Just cool it! You're wasting internet paper. Sting's Tantric trees have died for you. Take you're frustrated bickering elsewhere. Okay? Leave us decent citizens on ILM in peace. Okay?

Sorry, blueski, you were saying?

Limter Garner, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

(cough)/not

Tom Bailey, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Limiter, did you hear that? Roy just sneaked in an extra 'not' using the Tom Bailey identity!

normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Fairground Attraction: Classic or Dud?

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:12 (twenty-three years ago)

And you're' just trying to change the subject now. You know what you did. You know you did. ARE!

normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, I'm sulking.

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Are!

normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I know.

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:16 (twenty-three years ago)

are ... what?

normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I am sulking. I know, you're right. It's unforgivable and I should leave this discussion board forever.

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:18 (twenty-three years ago)

But ... but, who will be you when you're gone, Roy? I mean, you have a role to play here. We're kind of used to you popping up from time to time, mentioning Rogan Whitenails and/or Ned Raggett) ...

normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I could consider staying if ... NO, he'd never agree to it ...

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:22 (twenty-three years ago)

if WHAT?! What, Roy. Who wouldn't agree to what?! Tell me ... If there's a way, tell me! Tell us all.

normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I'll stay, but only in a sort of popping up from time to time kind of way, if Ned Raggett starts this thread: Roy Blows: Utter Classic! Then I'll stay.

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh ... Um ... Roy, you might as well go. Bye.

normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

You don't think ...

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Not a chance. Ned hates you. He's always hated you, since you (Rogan Whitenails) wrote a sone about him, accusing him to boot of being 25 different people, which you in fact are.

normie, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I suppose you don't mean a 'sone', normie - you mean 'song'. You mean the song which can be heard on www.electromancer.com. That's what you mean. Yup, you mean the song that has words to accompany it: a poem, included in Rogan Whitenails new poetry book - Failure Crawled up my Leg (2002) - and available through Amazon. And the book itself mentions ILM. That's what you mean.

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

good grief.

Limiter Garner, Thursday, 5 September 2002 15:38 (twenty-three years ago)

What the hell happened here?

Nick Rhodes, Thursday, 5 September 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't ask.

Limiter Garner, Thursday, 5 September 2002 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't patronise us, Limiter. Nick Rhodes(the synthesizer player in Duran Duran), I happened here; Yes, it was I who happened here. Tell all those who ask. But I may never happen again.

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Fine, Roy. Whatever.

Search: 'Love on your side'.

Nick Rhodes, Thursday, 5 September 2002 16:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Right ... well, I'll be going then ... I'll be off. Um, I'm going now.

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

yup, okay, Roy ...

Yes, I agree Nick Rhodes (the synthesizer player in Duran Duran), 'Love on your side is a really natty song. It's whirrs like a clockwork Bowie miniature toy.

Limter Garner, Thursday, 5 September 2002 16:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, bye ... ... bye. Bye Limiter. Bye Sean Carruthers. Bye everyone ... bye

Roy Blows, Thursday, 5 September 2002 16:34 (twenty-three years ago)

has he gone yet?

Nick Rhodes, Thursday, 5 September 2002 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

ok it was someone else i saw live, someone els's former colleague I met. Another dream shattered.

jon, Friday, 6 September 2002 08:21 (twenty-three years ago)

six months pass...
Search: The "Quick Step & Sidekick" album in particular
Destroy: That terrible house-influenced album from the early 90s (Was it called "The Saint"?)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 27 March 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

nineteen years pass...

One of my fave bands when I grew up and one that holds up much better than its reputation.

I absolutely love the "Quick Step And Sidekick" album all the way through, and I consider it to be one of the modt underrated albums ever. Also like the other two Thompson Triplets albums a lot though I prefer the original Alex Sadkin produced (RIP - lost him way too early) version of "Lay Your Hands On Me" way over the album version.

Search also some songs on the next couple of commercial flop albums, particularly "Perfect Day" which should have been an a-side. And of course "In The Name Of Love".

Destroy the first and last albums. Postpunk and house pop were just not the right styles for Thompson Twins. And, other than the hit, not too fond of "Set" either. The Thompson Triplets were indeed the best era.

The GeirBot (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 10 August 2022 21:28 (three years ago)

Hmm. Already answered :) though this last post was bit more complete. And I have also now heard the first two. :)

The GeirBot (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 10 August 2022 21:30 (three years ago)

In France they are known as "Les Jumeaux Dupond."

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Wednesday, 10 August 2022 21:33 (three years ago)

Tom Bailey's work as International Observer was really good.

brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 10 August 2022 21:47 (three years ago)

Alannah Currie is now a--performance artist, I guess?--named Miss Pokeno. She and Debbie Harry are apparently quite close, which for some reason I find satisfying.
