Anything halfway-good among these?

I have a soft spot for S&M, haven't heard the others from the '90s in a decade. Never heard the last two.

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:32 (thirteen years ago)

i'm literally listening to "the outlaw torn" right now

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:33 (thirteen years ago)

not fair to put s&m on this tho homie

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:33 (thirteen years ago)

why not? for a lotta people it fucked up old school metallica songs, which is a far greater crime than writing shitty new songs but leaving the old masterworks alone. revisionism suxxx

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Friday, 22 July 2011 02:40 (thirteen years ago)

shit which one had the memory remains on it? was king nothing on load?

van ingalls wilder (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 22 July 2011 02:43 (thirteen years ago)

memory remains is reload

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:44 (thirteen years ago)

lol @ ppl who think "it fucked up old school metallica songs"

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:44 (thirteen years ago)

like is this a bit yr doing or do you really like this shit and not like the old awesome shit?

van ingalls wilder (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 22 July 2011 02:46 (thirteen years ago)

what

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:47 (thirteen years ago)

i genuinely love a lot of metallica and when i was younger i literally thought metallica and staind were the only two bands worth being really really into

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:48 (thirteen years ago)

lol @ ppl who think "it fucked up old school metallica songs"

― markers

this was just saying that i like the versions of a lot of their famous songs that on s&m. i also like the originals of a lot of their famous songs

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:49 (thirteen years ago)

that are on

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:49 (thirteen years ago)

relevant poll of singles from the same era: Best post-shitness (mid-shitness?) Metallica track

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 02:51 (thirteen years ago)

answer to that poll is outlaw torn

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:52 (thirteen years ago)

i don't even know what that is. what album was it on?

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 02:54 (thirteen years ago)

I vote Death Magnetic and I don't even really like it that much, but it's not bad, and it's listenable. Garage Inc.'s not bad either -- but I'm not including the Garage Days EPs because they already existed. The Mercyful Fate medley almost put them over the top but some of their other covers were, ehh, not so inspired.

Neanderthal, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:54 (thirteen years ago)

Outlaw Torn = Load. and it's zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Neanderthal, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:55 (thirteen years ago)

I do actually like S&M tho Jaymz's vocals are so auto-tune pitch corrected they're annoying to listen to. I kinda agree w/ markers though about it not being fair to include, so I didn't vote for it

Neanderthal, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:56 (thirteen years ago)

lol @ metallica's wiki saying S&M is 16 times platinum with some fuzzy math (5 mil of a double album plus 6 mil DVD sales)

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:01 (thirteen years ago)

I mean the audio on the dvd is the same as on the cd but yea that's still RONG

Neanderthal, Friday, 22 July 2011 03:03 (thirteen years ago)

i just thought it was funny that some 'ca cuz felt the need to trump up some already impressive numbers so that it somehow looks like some random novelty live record outsold the fuckin' black album

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:05 (thirteen years ago)

some dude, would genuinely be interested in hearing your opinion of "the outlaw torn" (closing track on load)

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 03:10 (thirteen years ago)

weird hetfield harmonies on this tune

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:14 (thirteen years ago)

jesus this is still going. some kind of cool bluesy guitar tones on this solo, i guess.

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:21 (thirteen years ago)

lol

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

well i'm glad you at least gave it a try

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

ten minutes!

apichathong song (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:30 (thirteen years ago)

yeah that song is not really fucking with "it ain't my bitch" or "hero of the day"

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:31 (thirteen years ago)

smh

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 03:31 (thirteen years ago)

sorry man this is like someone trying to convince me i should rank 2002 ll cool j over 1990 ll cool j and it's just not gonna happen

apichathong song (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:34 (thirteen years ago)

"but i respect your right to your opinion"

apichathong song (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:34 (thirteen years ago)

like right now i am listening to battery and still feel like i'm being punched in the face after all these years, whereas that song up there sounds like kirk taking a really painful guitar-shit over something too lumbering to boogie but not lumbering enough to be sludge

apichathong song (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:37 (thirteen years ago)

i basically love hard rock and hate metal so i totally have markers's back, would totally rather listen to black album and select post-black album singles over '80s metallica

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:38 (thirteen years ago)

btw as i said above i love stuff like master of puppets, and justice for all, and ride the lightening too

markers, Friday, 22 July 2011 03:40 (thirteen years ago)

that's cool but i say fuck 'em

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:41 (thirteen years ago)

i love hard rock too! but that song still sounds like a big dump.

apichathong song (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:41 (thirteen years ago)

yeah not defending that one at all -- but i mean i'm as sick of "fade to black" as any '90s metallica song

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:43 (thirteen years ago)

and hetfield just had no vocal presence at all before bob rock taught him to sing like a pirate

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:43 (thirteen years ago)

haha

apichathong song (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:46 (thirteen years ago)

i will cherish his ad libs on the s&m version of "for whom the bell tolls" for all time

apichathong song (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:46 (thirteen years ago)

what a bunch of crap. death magnetic might be the best of these and it's unlistenable? garage maybe. I dunno I hate all of these.

akm, Friday, 22 July 2011 03:48 (thirteen years ago)

how does it feel to be alive

OOH, time marches on! I want it! absolutely!

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:55 (thirteen years ago)

a friend reminded me of that s&m performance last year and noted that nothing better exemplifies the shift from '80s to '90s metallica like trading "YEAH, MOTHERFUCKERS" for "YOU BETCHA"

apichathong song (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:55 (thirteen years ago)

at some point in the late '90s james hetfield briefly turned into biff from back to the future

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:55 (thirteen years ago)

i wish youtube had my other favorite late metallica moment, from the behind the music:

jason newsted: "yeah? well, we did sell out. *claps hands together* we sold out every show, every night."

apichathong song (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:58 (thirteen years ago)

yeah that's timeless

drowning cool (some dude), Friday, 22 July 2011 03:59 (thirteen years ago)

Death Magnetic isn't bad at all; I mean play it next to the old shit it sounds forced of course, but next to the Loads or St. Anger it sounds fucking rocking. There are some genuinely exciting thrash-out instrumental passages IMO.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Sunday, 31 July 2011 19:26 (thirteen years ago)

fuck it all and fuckin no regrets

markers, Sunday, 31 July 2011 19:27 (thirteen years ago)

Death Magnetic by a fucking mile, even including the Black Album.

Siegbran, Sunday, 31 July 2011 19:38 (thirteen years ago)

as someone who took some perverse enjoyment in how fucked up the St. Anger singles sounded, i thought he Death Magnetic singles were completely irredeemable even on a comedy level

preschoolin' life (BradNelson), Sunday, 31 July 2011 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

not at all!

markers, Sunday, 31 July 2011 20:12 (thirteen years ago)

i revisited it because this year's morbid angel record had me thinking of other metal fiascos.

it contains lars' best drum performance (a relative thing, yeah) and is purely interesting to me because it sounds like the exact product of three people who should not be making a record together.

preschoolin' life (BradNelson), Sunday, 31 July 2011 20:15 (thirteen years ago)

also the protools copying-and-pasting gets me thinking of teo macero even though that is clearly not the result

preschoolin' life (BradNelson), Sunday, 31 July 2011 20:17 (thirteen years ago)
