1) till the world ends
2) the edge of glory
3) tgif
4) party rock
5) give me everything
6) dirt road anthem
...
20) the lazy song

teledyldonix, Saturday, 23 July 2011 01:00 (thirteen years ago)

"Who Says," if only because the last time we did a similar-ish poll I went with "The Edge of Glory." Here's hoping the second half of Summer '11 greatly improves, though.

jer.fairall, Saturday, 23 July 2011 01:53 (thirteen years ago)

Though I should note how surprised I am that "Good Life" doesn't totally suck.

jer.fairall, Saturday, 23 July 2011 01:54 (thirteen years ago)

good ones: party rock, give me everything, edge of glory, till the world ends, just can't get enough, who says, dirt road anthem, bass down low. haven't heard trax 17-19. all the other ones can fuck right off.

Peepee Soaked Heckhole (zachlyon), Saturday, 23 July 2011 03:53 (thirteen years ago)

this is a pretty strong entry actually

1 tgif
2 just can't get enough
3 party rock anthem
4 give me everything
5 on the floor

i don't love "the edge of glory" (too monolithic, tho the clarence solo is classic) or "till the world ends" (britney's singing, eh) but i've jammed both of them a decent amount in the car

"the show goes on", "price tag" & "the lazy song" are three of my least favorite songs of the year, so that works out well

J0rdan S., Saturday, 23 July 2011 06:57 (thirteen years ago)

1. lmfao
2. j-lo
3. kp
4. gaga
5. dev

bed bath and beyoncé (The Reverend), Saturday, 23 July 2011 07:09 (thirteen years ago)

you know, we haven't talked about dev nearly enough. "bass down low" and "in the dark" are both super-good - i love how she takes that trashy gettin-slizzered aesthetic but dials down a lot of the sonic vomit so that she harks back more to freestyle (or, in a sideways fashion, to electroclash). kind of like some miami superclub as hosted by miss kittin and her ice.

1. on the floor
2. bass down low
3. give me everything
4. the edge of glory
5. till the world ends (only the remix though, and even then only until ke$ha comes in at which point the stop button gets hit)

i haven't heard that selena gomez song though

lex pretend, Saturday, 23 July 2011 08:38 (thirteen years ago)

"price tag" is surely the worst, beating even lmfao and katy perry and bruno fucking mars

lex pretend, Saturday, 23 July 2011 08:39 (thirteen years ago)

Except for the OneRepublic track I don't think I've ever heard any of these beyond small snips of the chorus in commercials. Goes to show that I've stopped paying attention.

Super Villains With Drum Machines (MintIce), Saturday, 23 July 2011 11:55 (thirteen years ago)

Britney, bitch, followed by "Give Me Everything" and Aldean.

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 23 July 2011 11:59 (thirteen years ago)

"On The Floor" is a piece of shit, don't know what you guys see in it

drowning cool (some dude), Saturday, 23 July 2011 12:28 (thirteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Thursday, 28 July 2011 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

Nicki's verse on the remix has kinda warmed me to "Till The World Ends" but still smh @ y'all

some dude, Thursday, 28 July 2011 23:59 (thirteen years ago)

some dude otm -- that's really an incredibly forgettable single

J0rdan S., Friday, 29 July 2011 02:00 (thirteen years ago)

The remix is so superior that I never listen to the original.

I forgot to vote in this - would have gone with "Give Me Everything".

I have decided "The Lazy Song" actually is the worst song ever made.

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 02:08 (thirteen years ago)

tim otm

J0rdan S., Friday, 29 July 2011 02:13 (thirteen years ago)

Best version of "Til the World Ends" is Kingdom's edit of the remix that jettisons Brit and Kesha.

The Reverend, Friday, 29 July 2011 06:33 (thirteen years ago)

Oh come on now.

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 06:42 (thirteen years ago)

what a weird winner

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 06:43 (thirteen years ago)

rev otm, it was becoming bothersome when listening to the original of the remix to have to always remember to stop it before ke$ha came in

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 06:44 (thirteen years ago)

Oh come on now.

One person I've never had any use for and one person I have a hit out against. ¯\(°_o)/¯

The Reverend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:06 (thirteen years ago)

I actually do like the Kingdom edit but I'm just starting to feel a little uncomfortable with this increasing trend of seizing on the respectable bits of pop songs and looping them.

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:12 (thirteen years ago)

People should make better pop songs then.

The Reverend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:13 (thirteen years ago)

Spoken like a neptunes instrumentals enthusiast.

Ke$ha is 4 lines and doesn't have much to do that she can really stuff up unless you have a pre-existing vendetta.

Britney is actively good, her usual limitations of course but they work fine in context.

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:15 (thirteen years ago)

isn't it a function of the whole everyone-featuring-on-everyone-else's-songs culture though? so you're going to get amazing verses rubbing up against shit-to-the-point-of-unlistenable ones a lot more now.

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:16 (thirteen years ago)

i'm sure ke$ha has more than 4 lines, but however many she has, she does them VERY LOUDLY >:(

britney is fine but not really an active selling point.

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:17 (thirteen years ago)

isn't it a function of the whole everyone-featuring-on-everyone-else's-songs culture though? so you're going to get amazing verses rubbing up against shit-to-the-point-of-unlistenable ones a lot more now.

(specifically it's about nicki minaj's penchant for showing shit pop stars and past-it rappers up.)

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:18 (thirteen years ago)

I sort of feel like that's part of the fun though? I feel like Nicki is less enjoyable when you remove the sense of her intruding and taking over.

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:28 (thirteen years ago)

Spoken like a neptunes instrumentals enthusiast.

Come on, son. You know as well as I that there are a ton of great pop songs with Neptunes instrumentals. Hell, one of them's even by Britney Spears.

The Reverend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:29 (thirteen years ago)

I sort of feel like that's part of the fun though? I feel like Nicki is less enjoyable when you remove the sense of her intruding and taking over.

it's part of the fun the first few times but after that you just don't want to have to put up with jay-z or ke$ha or sean kingston at all.

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:31 (thirteen years ago)

xpost

I was being snarky admittedly.

You don't think any of those songs are better as instrumentals though, surely?

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:32 (thirteen years ago)

No, but the difference is I don't think "Til the World Ends" is a great, or even much better than passable, pop song.

The Reverend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:33 (thirteen years ago)

in original form "till the world ends" is one of the weakest tracks on the britney album, which is itself only average - the only reason the remix redeems it is because of nicki, so it stands to reason that all you really need of it is nicki

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:36 (thirteen years ago)

i mean if we're comparing it to her neptunes tracks, "till the world ends" (original) falls some way short of the "boys" remix and "i'm a slave 4 u"

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:36 (thirteen years ago)

No I think the remix is half great because of nicki, half great because of comedy faux dubstep.

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:37 (thirteen years ago)

Agree the original is pasty by comparison but that's not what we're comparing.

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:38 (thirteen years ago)

did you ever hear "saxon" tim?

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:38 (thirteen years ago)

On top of what Lex said, the beat under Nicki's part is the best part of the beat in either version.

The Reverend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:38 (thirteen years ago)

the comedystep is all over the britney album so it's not like "till the world ends" is remarkable in that regard

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:39 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, any shock factor of Britney-gone-pubstep was over by the second time I heard "Hold It Against Me".

The Reverend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:43 (thirteen years ago)

It's way way way way better than "Hold It Against Me" though, or anything comparable on the album I reckon.

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:50 (thirteen years ago)

everything on the album is much of a muchness to me but "till the world ends" sans nicki is def not better than "hold it against me" (i would pick i wanna go/inside out/drop dead beautiful/gasoline, if i had to, and lose the rest)

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:54 (thirteen years ago)

Lex for the umpteenth time I am not making any claims for the original til the world ends!!

anyway this is a false argument, I get where you're coming from, I just react irrationally to the slight veneer of tastefulness that clings to these sorts of edits. I got a message on facebook the other day from a friend who said "I don't like Britney of course, but have you heard Kingdom's edit of her song with some rapper he knows on top? It sounds like something u would be into" so I'm really reacting to that.

More generally DJs over here play this sort of thing for the explicit purpose of playing pop music without playing pop music, which obv I would never accuse you two of doing.

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:55 (thirteen years ago)

nicki is tasteful now?

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:57 (thirteen years ago)

(i mean i get where you're coming from but hating ke$ha - which is what the edit's about, more than britney - is not a sign of anti-pop snobbery at all)

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 07:58 (thirteen years ago)

How, when Britney is on the record for the entire time and Ke$ha only sings, once:

"I cant take it take it take no more / never felt like felt like this before / come and get me get me on the floor / dj what you what you waitin' for?"

... and that's it?

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 08:01 (thirteen years ago)

I think your allergy to Ke$ha is making you go into anaphylatic shock at even trace elements.

Tim F, Friday, 29 July 2011 08:02 (thirteen years ago)

she does have that effect on one!

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 08:12 (thirteen years ago)

That kesha bit is the only dope bit on that song. Nicki minaj is the fucking worst.

kkvgz, Friday, 29 July 2011 08:24 (thirteen years ago)

It's really more about Nicki and stutter-step beats fitting into his chosen aesthetic better than Britney and Kesha and big pop choruses. Also, lol at Nicki as "some rapper he knows".

Btw, Kesha sings that prechorus twice and also happens to be the most insufferable human making music today.

The Reverend, Friday, 29 July 2011 08:31 (thirteen years ago)

smfh xp

The Reverend, Friday, 29 July 2011 08:31 (thirteen years ago)

damn y'all

britney doesn't get the best dr luke or max martin songs anymore, but for some reason ppl like to pretend that she does

J0rdan S., Friday, 29 July 2011 08:33 (thirteen years ago)

i bet the single off ke$ha's next album is better than anything off this britney, save "this is how i roll"

J0rdan S., Friday, 29 July 2011 08:34 (thirteen years ago)

"how i roll" is the worst on the britney album by some distance

lex pretend, Friday, 29 July 2011 10:05 (thirteen years ago)

see the sunrise we ain't stopping keep on SBing till the world ends.

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 29 July 2011 11:18 (thirteen years ago)

can I just say re: Jessie J, if someone did a full on makeover of her and gave her some decent songs I suspect she could be amazing

which really makes the actual trainwreck she is that much worse to me

PAJAMARALLS? PAJAMALWAYS! (DJP), Friday, 29 July 2011 13:51 (thirteen years ago)

Looks like the right song won.

Btw, what the screw is "Starbucks Smile"?

jaymc, Friday, 29 July 2011 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

How, when Britney is on the record for the entire time and Ke$ha only sings, once:

"I cant take it take it take no more / never felt like felt like this before / come and get me get me on the floor / dj what you what you waitin' for?"

... and that's it?

she's also audibly singing in unison with Britney (it doesn't seem right to say those 2 are capable of harmonizing) toward the end too
