"Who Says," if only because the last time we did a similar-ish poll I went with "The Edge of Glory." Here's hoping the second half of Summer '11 greatly improves, though.

Though I should note how surprised I am that "Good Life" doesn't totally suck.

good ones: party rock, give me everything, edge of glory, till the world ends, just can't get enough, who says, dirt road anthem, bass down low. haven't heard trax 17-19. all the other ones can fuck right off.

i don't love "the edge of glory" (too monolithic, tho the clarence solo is classic) or "till the world ends" (britney's singing, eh) but i've jammed both of them a decent amount in the car

"the show goes on", "price tag" & "the lazy song" are three of my least favorite songs of the year, so that works out well

you know, we haven't talked about dev nearly enough. "bass down low" and "in the dark" are both super-good - i love how she takes that trashy gettin-slizzered aesthetic but dials down a lot of the sonic vomit so that she harks back more to freestyle (or, in a sideways fashion, to electroclash). kind of like some miami superclub as hosted by miss kittin and her ice.

I actually do like the Kingdom edit but I'm just starting to feel a little uncomfortable with this increasing trend of seizing on the respectable bits of pop songs and looping them.

People should make better pop songs then.

Ke$ha is 4 lines and doesn't have much to do that she can really stuff up unless you have a pre-existing vendetta.

Britney is actively good, her usual limitations of course but they work fine in context.

isn't it a function of the whole everyone-featuring-on-everyone-else's-songs culture though? so you're going to get amazing verses rubbing up against shit-to-the-point-of-unlistenable ones a lot more now.

i'm sure ke$ha has more than 4 lines, but however many she has, she does them VERY LOUDLY >:(

it's part of the fun the first few times but after that you just don't want to have to put up with jay-z or ke$ha or sean kingston at all.

No, but the difference is I don't think "Til the World Ends" is a great, or even much better than passable, pop song.

in original form "till the world ends" is one of the weakest tracks on the britney album, which is itself only average - the only reason the remix redeems it is because of nicki, so it stands to reason that all you really need of it is nicki

i mean if we're comparing it to her neptunes tracks, "till the world ends" (original) falls some way short of the "boys" remix and "i'm a slave 4 u"

No I think the remix is half great because of nicki, half great because of comedy faux dubstep.

Agree the original is pasty by comparison but that's not what we're comparing.

Yeah, any shock factor of Britney-gone-pubstep was over by the second time I heard "Hold It Against Me".

It's way way way way better than "Hold It Against Me" though, or anything comparable on the album I reckon.

everything on the album is much of a muchness to me but "till the world ends" sans nicki is def not better than "hold it against me" (i would pick i wanna go/inside out/drop dead beautiful/gasoline, if i had to, and lose the rest)

anyway this is a false argument, I get where you're coming from, I just react irrationally to the slight veneer of tastefulness that clings to these sorts of edits. I got a message on facebook the other day from a friend who said "I don't like Britney of course, but have you heard Kingdom's edit of her song with some rapper he knows on top? It sounds like something u would be into" so I'm really reacting to that.

More generally DJs over here play this sort of thing for the explicit purpose of playing pop music without playing pop music, which obv I would never accuse you two of doing.

That kesha bit is the only dope bit on that song. Nicki minaj is the fucking worst.

It's really more about Nicki and stutter-step beats fitting into his chosen aesthetic better than Britney and Kesha and big pop choruses. Also, lol at Nicki as "some rapper he knows".

Btw, Kesha sings that prechorus twice and also happens to be the most insufferable human making music today.
