Ran across their name today. There used to be another band called the Libertines "Everybody Wants to be My Sister" ...

But I hear these sassy young lads are hot, baby... Hot! But they haven't hit here yet that I've heard... but then, I'm like Eminem & I don't give a fuck... meaning, I don't listen to the radio and I rarely read music mags anymore... sad to say, I get most of my news right here these days... (dude, I'm totally out of it...)

Why all the hate for the Libertines? I admit I've only heard the singles, and I don't read the music press, but what's wrong with 'em? What A Waster must get something if only for best use of the word 'cunt'.

I like them a lot actually. They sound like Michael Bracewell made them up in a lab but that's not awful.

The album's great! Rock bands never sound this silly, sloppy, fey and full of ideas anymore, it's refreshing. Is the hate just a kneejerk anti-NME thing? I mean, I'd probably hate them, too if all I had to go on were those constant reports of tour debauchery. Ooh, rent boy rumors, ooh.

Also, I was wondering how English people would feel about the Englishness of it all, if it comes off as charming and joyous or overbearing and super-calculated. Cause it's certainly charmed me.

Fuck, I never realised quite how abyssmal the Libertines were until my friend insisted on playing them for a fucking hour the other night after a run of perfectly good jungle and old skool hardcore. They caused me actual, physical pain. I was on MDMA powder at the time, mind.
