i voted creed; they've brought me the most pure joy over the years.

i really like one daughtry song, so he wins by fedault

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 July 2011 02:43 (fourteen years ago)

best Nickelback song: "Photograph"
best Shinedown song: "Second Chance"
best Godsmack song: "I Stand Alone"
best Creed song: "My Sacrifice"
best Daughtry song: "What I Want"
best Seether song: "Fake It"
best Three Days Grace song: "Lost In You"
best Staind song: "Mudshovel"
best Breaking Benjamin song: Before Breaking Benjamin, Ben Burnley was a solo performer. He later came up with the band's name, "Breaking Benjamin," after doing a performance of a Nirvana cover. At the end of the performance, Ben knocked over and cracked a microphone he had borrowed. The owner of the microphone walked onto the stage and said, "I'd like to thank Benjamin for breaking my fucking microphone."[1]

weirdly i gotta vote creed too because at least stapp brought some lols whereas all these other bands are an indistinguishable blur of vedder-isms and unfortunate facial hair

apichathong song (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 02:48 (fourteen years ago)

Creed really own this category, whatever it is. Nickelback is probably the runner-up, but whereas I can occasionally enjoy the pure silliness of Creed, Nickelback is like a soulless computer program.

Hoobastank weren't really grunge, they were basically Incubus lite

yelling "free dom passy" til you know i'm aspie (some dude), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 02:57 (fourteen years ago)

man there was a time that "so cold" was maybe the best new song playing on this alternative/nu-metal station in vegas

i think i can point to "well that's all right, let's give this another try" as like the textbook example of how to make a bad song worse

preschoolin' life (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 02:58 (fourteen years ago)

seether is probably the most unforgivable of this bunch for me.

oh wait where's SALIVA, you guys

preschoolin' life (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 02:59 (fourteen years ago)

which Daughtry song, jordan

"it's not over", for having a chorus w/ more tricks than you could reasonably expect

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 July 2011 03:06 (fourteen years ago)

all the bands in this poll have at least eight top 10 mainstream rock hits, usually more (except Daughtry, who has mostly adult contempo hits). Saliva and Hoobastank just don't rate with five and three, respectively.

yelling "free dom passy" til you know i'm aspie (some dude), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 03:11 (fourteen years ago)

yeah "it's not over" is decent. i like "what i want" best even though the slash guest spot is kind of squandered.

Creed owns this for comedy value alone

the rest of these bands could be shot into the sun for all i care

i like at least one song from each of these bands -- more than one for a bunch of them

markers, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 03:58 (fourteen years ago)

this entire crew has one good song between them and it's "I Stand Alone" by Godsmack

ennui morricone (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 04:54 (fourteen years ago)

no Puddle of Mudd, no credd

een, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 05:05 (fourteen years ago)

apparently they have TEN top 10 mainstream rock hits :L

een, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 05:06 (fourteen years ago)

"i stand alone" probably isn't even the best godsmack song!

markers, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 05:17 (fourteen years ago)

Staind.

Nickelback. It's sad he was ugly.

I for one am (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 12:46 (fourteen years ago)

These all put me in David Cross/Evanescence territory. Un-voteable poll.

BIG HOOBA aka the stankdriver (Phil D.), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 12:56 (fourteen years ago)

I would have had to vote Puddle of Mudd because my short-lived cover band used to do "She Hates Me" (NB: not my idea) and I now enjoy that song due to forced exposure/Stockholm Syndrome

Nickelback is a frustrating band in that they are better than they should be, but that doesn't really save them from being horribly, horribly irritating.

voting the dude who was ready to fight 311

PAJAMARALLS? PAJAMALWAYS! (DJP), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 14:00 (fourteen years ago)

(on pure singing chops I'd have gone Daughtry; that dude is the definition of "wasted talent" re: his vocal ability vs his songs)

PAJAMARALLS? PAJAMALWAYS! (DJP), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 14:01 (fourteen years ago)

No Hinder?

MarkoP, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 14:17 (fourteen years ago)

Also, Leader of Men is the best Nickleback song.

MarkoP, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

Hinder never happened

at least, that is what we're telling ourselves

God, "post-grunge" is fucking dire. Leave it to the most godawful 10 years of rock radio imaginable to make Creed look almost good (or at least tolerable) in retrospect. Where do these bands come from? How is it that they don't bore themselves to death?

they're moderately popular, kind of on the 2nd tier of post-grunge bands along w/ Saliva so not big enough for this poll (Hinder even further down the pecking order and also more nu-cock rock than post-grunge)

some dude, Monday, 1 August 2011 00:17 (fourteen years ago)

I will admit to liking Creed's first one, even though it's horribly generic. But Scott Stapp is such an arrogant tool, it's almost like I want to not like him. Some of his 'introspective' lyrics are just facepalm-y. "Only in America, we kill the unborn to make ends meet" (um wrong, hundreds of countries, including even small Guinea-Bisseau allow it for socio-economic purposes).

the one time I saw them live, he made some pseudo-new age hippie speech before "Higher" about how he wanted us to leave our bodies with him and ascend to a higher plane. Was hard not to laugh.

and then there was the time he proclaimed he kicked Eddie Vedder's ass during a live streaming Yahoo Interview with fans.

shame, Mark Tremonti wrote some kinda catchy (albeit derivative) riffs on My Own Prison.

four years pass...
three years pass...

This Tuesday I’ll be heading to Blossom to see Breaking Benjamin with Three Days Grace opening. Is there anything I can possibly do to make this evening bearable?

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 4 August 2019 23:52 (six years ago)

I've heard that drugs and alcohol will work.
