Once a year or so, I get the urge to listen to a whole bunch of Magma. So I stuff everything from the debut through Attakh into my iPod and press "Play." Then, about two minutes into the first song, the urge passes and I'm left wondering what the hell I was thinking.
Does this happen to anyone else? And if so, what groups trigger your inexplicable "must-hear-now/oh-never-mind" reaction?

Know better than to do this with any artist I used to listen to a lot. Otherwise it's not so bad

Yeah, I have this sometimes with things I used to listen to a lot. I think it's like some sort of old residual craving. Not quite on the same scale as the Magma example, I just got an urge to listen to the Psychedelic Furs first album, but I was satisfied well before getting halfway through the first side and ended up thinking: why am I listening to this?

Not a regular thing, but my U2 poll (deadline Thursday, potential voters!) is born out of an overwhelming urge to watch Rattle & Hum a couple of months ago. I've been checking out more stuff ever since and it's just not going away.

i revisit my high school years every 5 years or so: UFO, Foghat, Nazareth, Humble Pie, Montrose, Starz, et al. usually takes about an hour of skipping around impatiently, then it passes,
