i'm always up for classic hardcore as long as it's not too thick-necked and hateful.

Quantum of Pie (NickB), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 20:39 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i mean i wasn't thinking like skinhead stuff or anything, probably some boston stuff or agnostic front would be about as thicknecked as it, like i dunno was thinking like classic classic stuff like black flag, circle jerks, void, bad brains...or other stuff that ppl think is crucial, looking to learn more about some of the bands i don't know as well

om nom nom nnamdi asomugha (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

does alex in nyc still post here? he's the guy to go to for agnostic front/cro-mags/murphy's law type stuff.

orinoco flowbee (get bent), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 20:44 (thirteen years ago)

my impression of boston hardcore is that its as much about making recordings of kicking each others asses in an alleyway as it is about recordings of music

king of torts (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 5 August 2011 13:18 (thirteen years ago)

Harsh!

I actually know way more about NYHC than I do Boston because that's where I was when I most mostly into that stuff but I get pretty defensive of my adopted home city when people shit all over it for no good reason.

Pretty excited for this tbh even though I don't actually have any idea what it entails. Do we just take turns recommending things?

ladies love draculas like children love stray dogs (ENBB), Friday, 5 August 2011 13:29 (thirteen years ago)

sorry that was actually my proposal for all of ilx. wrong thread.

king of torts (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 5 August 2011 13:31 (thirteen years ago)

but yeah matt, are we restricting this to a certain timeframe, offering downloads of super obscure shit, limiting it by country, what?

i dont particularly have any interest in someone telling me why some shitty 00s victory band is "classic" but i think the 90s are far enough in the past that they'd count now.

also SIEGE was from boston, you boston-haters. smdh.

uh oh whats your fantasy (flopson), Friday, 5 August 2011 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

Would prefer if we made this worldwide rather than American tbh.

I listen to stuff from all decades but tbh I mostly listen to stuff that sounds like it was from the 80s even if it wasn't. I don't have any objections to other people suggesting stuff from the 90s/00s though, even if I personally don't have much time for stuff like Refused.

ENBB, just saying that i have plenty of reasons to hate Boston. it isn't anything related to you. in fact, my favorite family members live in Boston, and i rag on them all the time about it, and they take it in stride because they, too, know that Boston really sucks.

anyway, i will totally SB you for something equally petty someday, if that's the way it's going to be.

bitch u ain't british (the table is the table), Friday, 5 August 2011 19:34 (thirteen years ago)

sb'ing people for reasons of taste is totally hardcore btw. i'm not sure what the precise pre-internet equivalent would be...getting kicked off the mrr staff?

bitch u ain't british (the table is the table), Friday, 5 August 2011 19:44 (thirteen years ago)

i got yelled at by some mrr columnist for something i wrote about hardcore ages and ages ago on ilx, presumably because i didnt include enough shitty d-beat or crust bands.

king of torts (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 5 August 2011 19:45 (thirteen years ago)

x-post LOL I know it's not anything related to me! You were just needlessly shitty and bitchy about it imo.

ladies love draculas like children love stray dogs (ENBB), Friday, 5 August 2011 19:45 (thirteen years ago)

oh, well, every time i've been in Boston, everyone i've met has been needlessly shitty and bitchy to me, so i was just returning the favor. i'm sure that you are great IRL. (and jk re: the sb thing, i actually have *never* SB'ed anyone!)

bitch u ain't british (the table is the table), Friday, 5 August 2011 19:54 (thirteen years ago)
