That track was from the last album.

moka, guy had an additional bass player and someone drumming (cologne 2009: john stanier as special guest) last two times i saw him. i suppose it's his regular outfit now, the last album was also recorded with this lineup.

I'm really hoping Stanier's on this. The minimal bass / drum / synth loops on the last album were amazing.

Fuck me that's a mess, the different parts of the music don't seem to have anything to do with one another.

one of the songs has a nice bass part. the field is the same as burial in that they're both one trick ponies. they both need to change the name they produce under and do something different. they'll never match the glory of their first two albums and everything they do in the same mold will sound like treading water.

It's Up There is the song with the nice bass + live sounding drums. Then It's White is also a refreshing break from his usual style but it feels like he trapped using the same repeating sample loop idea.

This guy's trick evolved a little bit on the second album, and, on the basis of the track above, he's con tuning from there, and frankly, it's a trick I'd be happy to hear him do over and over again for an age.

I find the title hilarious, the Rolling Stones "we thought we'd mess about with some guitars and drums, hey"

Burial’s involvement with the album has been a source of focus for those chronicling its development so far, yet the role was far more back seat than is assumed. “I wanted to credit him, because he definitely did have a role, but I produced it from beginning to end” Woon clarifies. “But he definitely pointed me to a whole bunch of sounds. The remix he did for ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ opened my mind to that. We spent a bit of time, and he showed me some stuff with the computer.”

Woon met Burial, who produced recent single ‘Night Air’ [though Jamie makes it clear that Burial wasn't the driving force behind the tune's sound, instead acting more "as a session musician"], through a mutual friend. The plan was originally for the whole album to be produced by Burial, but that didn’t end up happening

burial's been moving into "dancier" stuff for some time now, e.g., collabs with four tet, thom yorke, and now the street halo ep. he has plenty of room to grow.

lots of artists are one-trick ponies. they just vary the trick incrementally from one album to the next. the ones that aren't -- r.e.m., for instance -- can sound like genre-hoppers, lacking any real commitment or purpose.

the part at the very end of track2 where the track gets all messed up reminds me of one of the songs from the first record that had an obvious user or software error

Weird. I kind of expected this to be more Looping-y than Things Keep Falling Down, but it isn't really. Kind of a mix of the live instrumentation aspects of his 2nd LP mixed with maybe the Sound of Light EP.

this might be my favorite first listen of his three albums. "is this power" is a killer intro and "it's up there" is chill and patient as hell

The couple of songs I've heard sound more interesting than the ones from the last album but he needs to cut on the laziness for his album covers, doesn't help me think his sound isn't stuck in the same old same old.

I am starting to love this. Is This Power doesn't need a question mark.

"Arpeggiated Love" is especially nice. i'm a sucka for the timpani.

Totally agreed - I gave this a listen in the car and had to turn it off after a couple of tracks. I just wish he'd tell himself, "you know, you don't HAVE to be minimal..."

I listened to this over the weekend and dug it a lot more than I did initially.

is there a particular highlight? i've kept it on my ipod, but haven't really tried to find a good entry-point to it (if one song sticks, maybe i'll give the rest of the disc a chance)?

i find the tracks really reach a higher plane about 5-6 minutes in, to where i don't recognize them for the first 2 minutes or so.

Dude was awesome live at ATP; three piece band really suited it, gave it immense physicality, whereas the similar but drummer / bass-player - less Walls were just pretty (&) dull.

whats the 3-piece setup like? i figured he was just a solo laptopper

i saw a really poorly mixed performance of the band a few years back: the live instruments were mixed far too low compared to the electronic stuff, resulting in a very uneven and jarring balance

i blame the soundguy.

yeah i saw them once right after From Here to Sublime and again after Yesterday and Today... both times a 3 piece band and the first time the sound was way off, but the second time was amazing.... though the second time they opened for Juan Maclean who were even better with a similar set up.

Three piece is Willner on synth and other gadgets and occasional guitar, plus bassist (in NoMeansNo tshirt) and drummer.

realeasing another album, now under the name Loops of Your Heart (we get it, you're into loops). album called And Never Ending Nights. Dronier and krautier with less emphasis on rhythm or beats. sounds good. should put it on that sequencer albums thread.

Bumping this thread because the other Field album threads are back in business, and this one should be too. "Is This Power" is my favorite track of theirs, just love the build-up.
