Ok, so I don’t know but a handful of these labels. The ones I can recognize are relatively high profile and have at least one massive seller under their belts (like Domino, Drag City, etc.), so while I’m sure they’ll be impacted, it won’t be nearly as bad as for some of these smaller guys.Do you know any particularly AWESOME albums released by any of the lesser-known labels? I’m thinking that maybe it would be cool to just put together a list so that posers like me could try and track down a couple albums on itunes or other digital format in the near future.I mean like "Boombox, Border Community, Boysnoize, Brille, Bronzerat"? I don't know what the fuck and I probably wouldn't glance at them twice. But maybe you do know what the fuck and we could help boost sales for these artists who could be getting hit pretty hard by this.― jon/via/chia/pet 2.0 (kkvgz), Wednesday, August 10, 2011 1:24 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban PermalinkPretty much everything on Soul Jazz is amazing.― polyphonic, Wednesday, August 10, 2011 1:28 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban PermalinkRock action is mogwai's label and they've put out good stuff by errors, envy, part chimp,James orr complex, remember remember etc.― you've got male (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, August 10, 2011 1:35 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban PermalinkCool, let's hear some more!― jon/via/chia/pet 2.0 (kkvgz), Wednesday, August 10, 2011 1:53 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban PermalinkJagjaguwar has some Richard Youngs albums, don't they? Sorry...
I can wholeheartedly recommend James Holden's The Idiots Are Winning on Border Community. Sort of blissful, quirky, melodic house and techno that is ideal for headphones and odd dancefloors.
On Rock Action, you cannot go wrong - as Jim says - with Thriller by Part Chimp, a superior stoner rock album.
Soul Jazz is an amazing label. The recent Invasion Of The Mysteron Killer Sound comps by Kevin Martin and Stuart Baker are both great. For reggae fans - Jackie Mittoo The Keyboard King Of Studio One, 100% and 300% Dynamite, Studio One Rockers and Reggae Disco are just some of the blinders they've released. Elsewhere Saturday Night Fish Fry and New Orleans Soul and Funk, their Louisiana primers are great.
I'm really partial to Lights Out Zoltar or anything else by UK singer songwriter Gemma Ray on Bronzerat.
Can't recommend Well Hung and Tandy Love's Turk Jerk, Sam Spence Sounds and Pommegranates on Finders Keepers.
Jane Weaver's The Fallen By Watchbird on Bird is also great.
Will try and think of some more.

really feel for artists who were about to release their new albums, which would have been destroyed - toddla t, little dragon and mara carlyle off the top of my head
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:03 (fourteen years ago)
I've got a feeling the neo-shoegaze label Sonic Cathedral may hang in the balance because of this so a recent album is Sarabeth Tucek's Get Well Soon. Yeti Lane by Yeti Lane is really good indie pop if that's your bag. Check the song Lonesome George.
XP That Fly Girls album is mint. There are literally too many good Soul Jazz albums to mention but yeah, that's great.
― Death To False Camp (Doran), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:06 (fourteen years ago)
My favourite compilation of about a year ago is the superb proto-synth pop anthology Cold Waves and Minimal Electronics vol 1. And the reissue of Thriller by Ruth is awesome as well if you like Cold Wave.
― Death To False Camp (Doran), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:08 (fourteen years ago)
that's their full roster but don't we not really have knowledge of what labels were affected or not yet other than the specific couple mentioned in the initial article
― fauxmarc, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:11 (fourteen years ago)
How do you mean? I know the people who run Sonic Cathedral and Angular for example and they are fucked.
Even if they get insurance money they're going to miss out on getting all the albums they had planned for the rest of the year pressed and that will mean closure if they're on the bread line.
― Death To False Camp (Doran), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:23 (fourteen years ago)
from whatever i'd read i'd come away with the impression pias has multiple warehouses and not all labels or all-of-a-particular label were in the one destroyed, dunno.
― fauxmarc, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:49 (fourteen years ago)
Where did you read that? They had one warehouse that was full and that is now gone. They now have another temporary warehouse but literally no stock to put in it.
Fair enough if you've got some info that I haven't but you're coming across as a bit snide. Where's your info sourced from?
― Death To False Camp (Doran), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 20:10 (fourteen years ago)
more albums. less rumors. this thread operates under the assumption that these labels entire UK stock was depleted.
― jon/via/chia/pet 2.0 (kkvgz), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 20:20 (fourteen years ago)
I just want to add one more thing because I've spent all day batting back these snide insinuations. One quite pathetic accusation, via Twitter, came from Alec Empire, who should know better. Insurance covers all albums at cost price not sale price which means that on average few of the labels will earn any profit this year.
This will spell the end for some of the smaller indies. And this isn't about having a row on the internet. I dearly love to be proved wrong.
Anyway, with that I'd say:
Alexander Tucker - Dorwytch (Thrill Jockey)The Go! Team - Thunder Lightning Strike (Memphis Industries)Various - Nice Up The Dance (Soul Jazz)Various - Rumble In The Jungle (Soul Jazz)Jean Claude Vanier - L'ENFANT ASSASSIN DES MOUCHES (Soul Jazz)
― Death To False Camp (Doran), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 20:28 (fourteen years ago)
Nina Nastasia - Outlaster (Fat Cat)Nina Nastasia - Run To Ruin (Touch And Go) Nina Nastasia - The Blackened Air (Touch And Go)
― Death To False Camp (Doran), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 20:32 (fourteen years ago)
Mickey Newbury - An American Trilogy (Drag City)
Obviously some of these labels are American and won't feel the pinch anywhere near as much...

I work over at Kompakt and was truly touched by The Quietus by including "Nah Und Fern" however must clarify the following.
Many may not realize this, however Kompakt distributes over 100 different labels worldwide. We worked with PIAS in the UK up until about 18 months ago with a number of these labels.
Though we did have stock from a number of our exclusive labels that apparently was lost in this horrendous fire, compared to what so many labels are going through right now, its a minor setback.
We have also published on our website a full statement.http://www.kompakt.fm/blog/R9FdV0STiwsT
Please support these great labels and again, thanks to The Quietus for providing a very thoughtful means to do so!
― owenf, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 22:17 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, we amended the piece to reflect all this information as soon as we received it. There was a lot of confusion within 12 hours of the fire happening and we had to amend the piece as regards two labels after they got back to us the following day. We changed Nuclear Blast who no longer have any dealings with PIAS but left Kompakt with a disclaimer because some of their labels have been affected.
We simply ask people to use their own discretion when choosing labels. A good rule of thumb is the smaller the label the more likely it is they'll need help but keep on checking news outlets, more information is arriving all the time.

The forthcoming Toddla T album is very good, and the track Streets So Warm is eerily riot-appropriate.

If it encourages people to buy the albums then it's a good thing. I mean, speaking as a music fan, anything that encourages people to support interesting, small labels is a good thing normally. But under these circumstances it's even more.
So yeah, good on her.

― kkvgz, Friday, 12 August 2011 18:59 (fourteen years ago)
buzzin' fly : tough one.
if you like their style of house/techno, then its all good.the compilations are all good starting points, but my fave is volume 4, and the justin martin mixes are both highly recommended.
then again, the 3 cd boxset is a good entry level package.
of the non-dance spin off label, strange feelings, i really like the figurines and tigercity ep.
the figurines : epic multi layered poptigercity : miami vice era 80s drama pop
however, my fave is the debut by "Mlle Caro & Franck Garcia" : lovely ambient electronic pop.
