The L.A. Times is saying that Biggie promised to pay the Crips a million bucks to off Makiaveli, and gang member Orlando Anderson was the trigger man.

this is some interesting shit. i'd like to see the reaction of all Big's people who all these years were like "oh, Biggie didn't want no trouble". i wonder if he actually did give them a mil. or maybe he didn't, and that's why he was offed.

it doesnt fit with anything ive ever heard about the deal, big was a straight killer yeah but he didnt want to hit pac

simon trife (simon_tr), Friday, 6 September 2002 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I read that article too. There doesn't seem to be much corroboration for the key points (in particular BIG's involvement) except for some anonymous interviews with former gang members who would have no compelling reason not to embellish things a bit in order to make the story more colorful or shift the blame. So color me unconvinced too.

'Let it go'? Someone murdered Onepac, so why close the book. Nick Broomfield's 'Biggie and Tupac' movie is on Channel 4 this weekend BTW, for those of us in Blighty.

Snotty Moore, Friday, 6 September 2002 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Loads of murders go unsolved....why should a gun-toting, violence-preaching celebrity's take precedence over the others?

Joolz Fargo, Friday, 6 September 2002 15:56 (twenty-three years ago)

P. Diddy did it...with his dance moves.

Who cares??? Sorry--I am a bit disgruntled--I've been overhearing nothing else for the past 2 weeks.

Check the Village Voice for a retread/reexamination of this, maybe (hopefully!!!) next issue.

Biggie Smalls is (Not) the Illest.

threemetalinsects (threemetalinsects), Sunday, 8 September 2002 04:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Of course the story is unsatisfying because of the anonymous witnesses. On the other hand, there is no way that Chuck Philips would get these people's accounts were he to reveal there identities in the Los Angeles Times. The paper put the story on their front cover so they are definitely putting their reputation on the line for this. Philips won a Pulitzer Prize three years ago for a report on corruption in the entertainment industry, btw.

And, quelle surprise, the same day that the LA Times reveals that B.I.G. paid Crip gang members to off 2Pac (with his Biggie's own Glock), The Sun (for what it's worth) reports that B.I.G.'s former best pal & label boss P. Diddy sees his label dropped by pay-masters BMG.

twenty-one years pass...

the guy they arrested has been talking/bragging about being involved for many years now

is he disgruntled adrian? (voodoo chili), Friday, 29 September 2023 17:44 (two years ago)

If he was literally tied to the shooter he could hardly be blamed

I love you, dad (Neanderthal), Friday, 29 September 2023 17:51 (two years ago)

The police raided his house and confiscated a copy of the book where he writes about being involved in the shooting.

Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Friday, 29 September 2023 19:02 (two years ago)

Hey now, give 'em a break. Where else are they going to find a copy of that book? Took years of police work to crack that lead, what with his public interviews and all.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 29 September 2023 19:05 (two years ago)

Yeah but if only there was something that, I don't know, linked him to the shooting, even if he just accidentally slipped up one time we could use that but this guy plays it pretty close to the vest

omar little, Friday, 29 September 2023 19:15 (two years ago)

"So this guy confessed to the murder? On a podcast? Can't we just arrest him?"

"You don't know how evidence works, rookie? We've got to wait until someone records the podcast onto a cassette tape, then after a few decades when the cassette gets donated to the Goodwill, we send our guys in to buy a copy. Then we raid a bunch of houses until we find something to play the tape on. It's called chain of custody."
