my answer to this most of the time would be "On Our Own" but the other day i heard the 7-minute album version of "Don't Be Cruel" and it just seemed like the most perfect thing i'd ever heard

I never loved him like other new jack swing artists but I can't fuck with the Don't Be Cruel-Rock Wit'cha sequence. I went with "My Prerogative."

voted "Don't Be Cruel"

there's not so many things in life better than a great new jack swing song.

Yup.

I love "On Our Own", though part of that is the Ghostbusters 2 rap ("too hot to handle, too cold to hold, they're called the Ghostbusters and they're in control...")...really catchy verse and chorus though.

I voted "Don't Be Cruel" though, on the strength of the pre-chorus, which is hooky as hell. also really love "Roni".

My Prerogative woulda gotten a vote from me a few years ago but I've since burnt myself out on it. really hate Britney's version of it too.

That reminds me of being 14. Every little step it is.

mmmm, Saturday, 13 August 2011 21:10 (fourteen years ago)

this is one r&b artist I didn't want any 'musical maturity' from. just keep beltin' out the danceable New Jack Swing ...

"Every Little Step." Great year for radio--Milli Vanilli still very much alive!

Ive been on a B Brown kick of late, this is great.

Somewhere in these three for me: Every Little Step, Humpin Around and Dont Be Cruel.

Yeah, "On Our Own" deserved better. Sure, it's a blatant tie-in, but the blatant tie-in is a) grafted onto a pretty glorious song and b)so daft and overdetermined it's hard to hate in retrospect. I mean, completely fitting:

The video features several guest appearances by celebrities including Jane Curtin, Malcolm Forbes, Iman, Sally Kirkland, Rick Moranis, Joey and Marky Ramone of The Ramones, Christopher Reeve, Lori Singer, and Donald Trump.

bentelec, Friday, 19 August 2011 01:52 (fourteen years ago)

one year passes...

Why would anyone prefer the version of "On Our Own" without the Ghostbusters rap?

billstevejim, Monday, 17 September 2012 23:56 (thirteen years ago)

Humpin' Around 4
