an ilm thread for when you're getting into somebody's music and holding your head between your hands like your brains were gonna spill out from ears because how did you, a person who knows his shit pretty much, not already know about this completely excellent music

inspired by how since June this band the Holy Sons have gone from "I think I heard their name once" to "word, dude was in Om, I should check him out" to "I want all their records, right now, because two days in five the three records by them I already have are the only records I want to listen to"

it's one guy playing multiple instruments in a sort of noir-soundtrack groove a lot of the time with mournful greyscale vocals (I don't want to say "monotone" because that's not exactly true but they are kind of muted - even when they rise in pitch/intensity they stay in this very restrained pocket) and sorta addled introspective lyrics which I wanna say are "druggy" but they're not all these-are-my-drug-thoughts it's just that they seem sort of post-personal-apocalypse, like. Aftermathy. I listen to this stuff late at night & love it, listen to it first thing in the morning, love it, I don't keep an all-time-top-ten list but if I were filling out a who-are-your-top-ten-right-now these guys'd be high on the list

I had "Decline of the West", which I bought during the time I was getting pretty into Grails (who he also plays with), but I didn't get too into it. I think the drum machines may have turned me off a little, especially since the dude's a monster on the drums. I've seen the newest one ("Survivalist Tales") in a dollar bin; I'll give it a shot, given your glowing recommendation.
