Thoughts on Tonights TOTP

Miss Dynamite - This is fantastic. Will buy tomorrow. Someone tell me about her.

Enrique Iglasias - Shit vocals, but what a good wah-wah groove.

Nickelback - The drummer looks like a midget who has been specially pumped up with gas to reach 'normal' size. I swear on my life that I would physically assualt the singer if I ever met him. Just for that little quaver of emotion he puts in his gravelly voice in the quiet bits - you know to show that he's, like, sensitive and *feeling this*. This band must be killed at all costs. As must...

Ash - Who buys this shit? Why isn't it all up for these drongos. Didn't this nonsense stop in about 1997? Who on earth gets pleasure from this?

Atomic Kitten - much as I love them this is a crap cover. But (the inside of)Jenny Frost's shirt- oh my goodness. Sweet jesus what a woman.

So tell me about Miss D.

«Nickelback - I swear on my life that I would physically assualt the singer if I ever met him.»

Believe me, a handful of idiotic Slipknot fans have just tried to do that in a portuguese festival a few weeks ago - with rocks! They played 3 songs and left the stage. Terrible behaviour, but a huge sense of relief, I guess.

I like the Ash song, it just suffers from being attached to one of the weakest voices in rock history.

And your forgot Mint Royale getting upstaged by (I presume) Prince Buster. His dancing at the end was great, but the fact he had to repeat the lines over and over and that he struggled to do this in time sort of made me feel a bit uncomfortable...

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 6 September 2002 18:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm so glad i didnt see Mint Royale on there...just what is the point of getting a looped sample sung live, even by the sampled artist himself. sure they get paid but what happened to integrity maaaan?

blueski, Friday, 6 September 2002 18:12 (twenty-three years ago)

That Mint royale rekkird is just starting to reach the "irritating" phase for me. Ash I do get a small amount of pleasure from. Their record sounds quite good when driving a car with a rumbling wheel bearing in the driving rain when the car stereo has no bass & all treble (I suppose you could call that "heavily qualified") Gimme a look @ thee bbc top 40 page. Hmm I don't think I've heard the nix0relback in the car, tho' it doesn't sound very memorable, so I possibly have and have forgotten it. The Miss Dynamite track is really good, yes, and I think I'll buy that one as well. I'll tell you what they do keep playing on the radio that is really really shit - that kiddiepunk number about - what is it again? the girl all the bad boys want or s.th. like that. Ugh.

thats by Bowling For Soup Norm and yes its hideous...i'm telling you when i was 15 i wouldve despised that song (and all those other wanky Blink spawn fratbands like New Found Glory) as much as i do now ten years later...and i wasnt THAT disturbed as a teenager

blueski, Friday, 6 September 2002 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

bowling for soup are good.

It sounds like a load of old bollox to me, Doc. Which would make it equal to most other weeks.

And I write as one who actually likes (the idea of?) TOTP.

Nickelback are so fucking terrible, god they're the musical equivalent of someone you don't know or particularly like sitting beside you on a train and moaning about their failed relationship, all the while you're trying to get out of the conversation and they keep making awkward and awkwardly sarcastic self deprecating comments which only digs them further into their hole. By the end you're wondering if they are in fact human at all.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 7 September 2002 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Absolutely true discussion in the Blair Household during the Nickleback performance.

Me: Thats fucking terrible
A: Yes it is.
Me: It got no tune either.
A: You were talking about the tune?
Me: Uh yeah.
A: Oh right, aye the tune is terrible too. That was a given really.
Me: So what did you think was terrible?
A: Eh?
Me: You agreed something was terrible but didn't think it was the tune.
A: Oh right, he was wearing his sunglasses on the top of his head.
Me: Really?
A: yes
Me: Thats fucking terrible.

We liked Ms Dynamite best too.

Oh, and was I the only one to spot Est'elle off Blak Twang's last single duetting with 3SL? What was that all about, eh?
