Forgotten 70s Albums

Did a search and the closest threads were regarding "lost" albums, which can have an entirely different meaning. This should be more flexible.

Jacques Higelin - Alertez les Bebes (EMI) 76

I was reading Paul Trynka's Iggy Pop: Open Up And Bleed, which recounted how the recording of The Idiot took place at the Chateau D'Herouville, a luxurious state-of-the-art residential studio based in a chateau 25 miles outside Paris, and managed by Magma's Laurent Thibault. It was a huge, rambling, romantic building, famously haunted by the ghosts of its celebrated former residents Chopin and his lover George Sand. Staying in one of the wings was Jaques Higelin, one of many men to be cuckolded by Iggy when he borrowed his girlfriend/babymama Kuelan Nguyen (inspiration for "China Girl"). He was preparing to record what would be his breakthrough album, Alertez les Bébés there. I'm no expert on French music, but I do love Gainsbourg and Brigitte Fontaine, whom Higelin had connections to. On first couple listens I really like this, and am now wondering what else I've been missing along those lines.

Joni Mitchell - Mingus (Asylum) 79

I knew that Mingus, despite split opinions, was probably better than Don Juan's Reckless Daughter, but I kept forgetting to check it out. What reminded me to finally get it was a fluffy rom-com, Just Wright, in a scene where Queen Latifah spots a Joni Mitchell CD in Common's character's car, and they bond over Mingus. I don't really see the appeal of celebrated track "God Must Be A Boogie Man," but "The Wolf That Lives in Lindsey" is cool. Overall a weird departure, but great musicianship obviously.

These two Fontaine/Higelin CDs have a bunch of great songs on them. Although tbh, I much prefer the Fontaine solo tracks and a couple of the duets, and I skip most of the Higelin solo songs.

Dennis Coulson - Dennis Coulson (Elektra) 73
After the break-up of McGuinness Flint, Dennis Coulson released his only record with well much of McGuinness Flint. Co-produced by Gallagher & Lyle, who played along with Jimmy Jewell and Paul Rutherford, Bruce Rowlands, Hughie Flint, Ian Stewart and Dixie Dean. Not quite the Americana of his earlier band, closer to Gallagher & Lyle's masterpiece of rock lite 'The Last Cowboy.' There's a lazy fatigue to most of the songs, especially on 'What Went Wrong' and 'Only Friend'. I would say the ballads are the better parts of this record were it not for the bluesy 'Neurosis USA'.
